The film was officially announced on March 19, 2026, during which Pop Mart and Sony Pictures Entertainment confirmed their collaboration. Read on to know more details about the same.

Recently, during a press release, Pop Mart and Sony Pictures Entertainment revealed details about their upcoming collaboration. They explained that a Labubu movie has been planned and currently it is in the early development stage. According to a report by Business Insider, both the companies shared details about the film and stated:

"The film will be a live-action and CGI hybrid bringing LABUBU’s whimsical world to the screen. It is still in early development."

According to a report by E! News, the upcoming film will be directed by Paul King. For the unversed, he is known for his iconic project, Wonka. Reportedly, he will also co-write the movie along with Steven Levenson. Apart from them, Michael Shaefer and Wenxin She will also be a part of the project. It is worth mentioning that as of now there is no update on the cast or the possible plot of the movie.

Before Labubu dolls became an internet sensation, they were originally created by Kasing Lung in the book series, The Monsters. Later, Pop Mart turned it into a toy, which soon turned into a global sensation. The real craze began in 2024, when they started going online. However, it rose to worldwide fame when global icon, Lisa was seen carrying a Labubu keychain.

After this, multiple social media influencers started ordering it and later shared the unboxing videos. It is worth mentioning that the dolls came in blind boxes, which added a layer of surprise. This made the content addictive. Months later, when the buzz increased, popular celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Urvashi Rautela and more were spotted with Labubu dolls.

Labubu dolls turned the CEO Pop Mart into a billionaire

As soon as the craze for Labubu dolls increased, it turned the CEO of Pop Mart into a billionaire. If reports are to be believed, the net worth of the CEO, Wang Ning increased to USD 22.1 billion that year. Later, an executive wrote an email regarding the crazy response of the dolls. The email could be read as:

"The passion and demand we have seen for Labubu over the last few months, and most recently with the Into Energy release, has surpassed our expectations! It’s been wonderful to see the impact our mischievous and lovable Labubu is having globally."
