It has been five years since Babil Khan lost his baba, Irrfan Khan, to cancer. It was not easy for the young Babil to deal with the loss of his father, with whom he was extremely close. His world turned upside down when Babil's shadow, Irrfan, left the world, and for the young actor, it was challenging to process that his baba was no more. The Qala actor once spoke about how he had locked himself in the room for months after his dad passed away.
Babil once sat down for an interview with Bollywood Bubble and shared that the day his baba, Irrfan, passed away, he did not believe it. He thought he was mature enough to handle the grief. At that time, he realised he was still a child. The next day, subtle feelings of one week had passed, and it hit there, and then he went into a bad spiral. Babil shared:
"I locked myself in the room for one and a half month. One of those things was you get up to tell baba something and then you realise in these subtle ways that he is not there anymore. He used to shoot so much that sometimes he used to go for a long shoot and eventually he would come back. So when it first happened, I had somehow convinced myself ki he will come back after the shooting schedule and then I slowly started realising that this is an indefinite shooting schedule."
Babil also revealed that he was in unbearable grief after he lost his best friend, his baba. It was so devastating for him that he has not been able to put it into words. However, Babil has been keeping himself positive with the memories of his baba. It was in 2018 when Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine cancer, and in April 2020, the actor breathed his last.
His last movie was Angrezi Medium opposite Radhika Madan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and many more. Babil, on the other hand made his acting debut with Qala opposite Tripti Dimri on Netflix. The psychological drama film got a lot of praise from the audiences, and so was his work in the Railway Men, where he was seen next to Kay Kay Menon, R Madhavan and Divyenndu.
Babil's terrific performance even in Friday Night Plan cannot be forgotten. He played the role of an older brother whose personality was nerdy. The actor, earlier in an interview with the same publication, revealed that he had taken up pressure on him after his dad, Irrfan, passed away. Babil confessed that he felt the pressure all the time when he was Irrfan's kid. In his words:
"I took it upon myself. Nobody told me to do this. And nobody told me to take the pressure. Nobody told me to become an actor. I wanted to. I stepped into the mud and now I have to deal with it. And I feel pressure all the time. I wake up in pressure and I sleep in pressure. I go through the day in pressure. But the truth is that you will never realize your potential as an artist and a human being without pressure. Because pressure it shapes you, it is needed to shape you.”
What do you think of Babil Khan's state when his dad passed away?
