His red Volkswagen Golf was found nearby in a casino parking lot, burned out, and he reportedly could not explain the fire during police questioning. Peter and Stephanie had been in an on-and-off relationship for a long time before splitting for good. Now, the latter is missing, and the former is currently behind bars, awaiting extradition to Austria. Not just Peter M, two of his family members were also reportedly arrested.

The detained individuals were Peter M.'s brother and stepfather, who had been questioned in Austria in connection with Stephanie's disappearance. Ongoing investigation comprises joint Austrian and Slovenian police operations, including searches with sniffer dogs at Peter M.'s grandmother's property. Amid that, rumours surfaced that the police had been successful in locating Stefanie Pieper. However, the officials had dismissed the online speculation and are continuing the investigation.

Peter M's brother and grandfather had reportedly been uncooperative during police questioning, and Peter M. reportedly chose to remain silent. The only updates available regarding the case's progress are that forensic examination of Peter M.'s burned car has not yielded any clues to Stefanie's whereabouts so far, and Stephanie still remains missing.
