Indian Bride Flaunts Her Baldness, Ditches Wig And Opts For A 'Maang Teeka' For Her Big Day

Hair is a significant part of beauty standards, and losing it can often be the worst nightmare. Especially in Indian culture, where hair is seen as a big attribute of beauty standards. However, Neehar Sachdeva, an influencer and resident of the US, challenged these standards when she walked down the aisle in her gorgeous bridal attire and flaunted her bald head.

Neehar Sachdeva was diagnosed with alopecia when she was only six months old. For the unversed, alopecia, in general terms, is a condition that causes the immune system to attack the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. Neehar recently tied the knot with the love of her life. However, what wowed us was the fact that the bride chose to flaunt her baldness instead of hiding it under a wig. In the shared pictures and videos, Neehar can be seen walking down the aisle in a gorgeous red lehenga with golden and white embroidery and hints of green.

She paired the outfit with a white dupatta that she draped over her shoulder and matched it with mint-hued jewellery, including a necklace, earrings, rings, a nath, kaleere, chooda and a maang teeka. The video begins with Neehar walking down the aisle with her head covered by a red veil. However, mid-way, she removed the veil, flaunting her baldness, and it goes without saying that she looked angelic. For her glam, she chose to define her eyebrows and kept the rest of her look in nude shades.

About Neehar Sachdeva's journey with alopecia

Neehar Sachdeva was diagnosed with alopecia when she was just six months old. However, after her mundan ceremony, her hair grew back. It wasn't until Neehar was in elementary school she started to lose her hair in patches. She wore wigs when she went out and even while attending school, as her family insisted on keeping her condition a secret.

Nonetheless, that didn't protect her from getting bullied for her looks. Neehar, in a conversation with Brown Girl Magazine, shared how her South Asian lineage played a crucial part in her parents' reaction. She stated:

"The fact that we belonged to South Asian culture played a huge part in my family being so scared and secretive. At no fault to my parents because that was just how they were raised, but seeing them worry about what people thought, worry about what society would think, and worry about presenting ourselves in this way in front of people moulded how I thought about it. It moulded my impressions of being ashamed, hiding behind my wig or being so secretive about it."

Neehar Sachdeva did a campaign with Brown Girl Magazine

In 2021, Neehar also became the face of Brown Girl Magazine's campaign, The Bald Brown Bride. The influencer shared how, once she accepted herself and stopped hiding her condition, people came to her support and respected her. She stated, "My bullies became my biggest cheerleaders." For the unversed, the campaign was about normalising a bald look for brides, and almost four years later, she herself walked down the aisle as a bald bride, showing how much she believed in the campaign.
