Weddings celebrate two people coming together for an eternal ride, accepting each other's soul in its rawest form. So when the bond shared is supposed to be untainted by societal norms, why are brides and grooms expected to tick certain boxes? And the couples of today's generation have decided to break free from the age-old stereotypes.
Indian bride, Mythri Jonnala got married to the love of her life, Parth, at a home wedding. In times when social media has taught us to look picture-perfect, the awareness of self-acceptance and self-love has also been growing. And our bride, proved the same when she decided to flaunt her natural beauty on her big day. Mythri, in an interview with Better India, revealed how she came to the decision to keep her natural salt and pepper hair.
During the conversation, Mythri Jonnala shared that her grey hair is not something she feels ashamed or fearful about. Instead, they remind her of the bond she shares with her mother. She revealed that her mother's hair turned fully grey by the time she turned 30, and despite the constant advice and self-consciousness, she didn't budge and kept her natural hair, which gave her the confidence to flaunt her own grey hair. She was quoted as saying:
"My grey hair doesn't scare me, it just reminds me that I'm my mother's daughter. My mom's hair turned fully grey by 30. I could see that initially, she was uncomfortable and self-conscious, but she never coloured them and just let them be. She often got unsolicited advice at hair salons but never paid heed. I learnt the power of vulnerability from her, and because of that, I have the courage to go grey today."
In the same interview, Mythri Jonnala reveals she has days when she feels self-conscious. However, her grey tresses were now a part of her identity, and she chose to flaunt them even on her big day. She further admitted that it was the most beautiful she had ever felt. She was quoted as:
"Some days, I too feel self-conscious, but my grey hair is a part of my identity now. That's why I chose to flaunt them even when I walked down the aisle. And it's probably the most beautiful I have ever felt."
Mythri Jonnala wore a traditional red saree with a golden border. She paired the saree with a red blouse with golden zari work. She completed the look with golden jewellery, including a statement necklace, drop earrings, maang teeka with maatha patti, kamarbandh and a bangle stack. For the unversed, Mythri works as a Real Estate Transaction advisor at Tatva Hyderabad. She pursued her BA, LLB (Hons) from National Law Institute University, Bhopal and her Master of Laws in Business Law and ADR, University of Southern California.
