Hrithik Roshan's sister, Sunaina Roshan has been extremely vocal about her battle with alcoholism. While it was not an easy journey for her or her family, the producer turned her life around after getting some professional help. Now, in a recent interview, she has opened up about her time in rehab and how she once yelled at her younger brother when he refused to let her come home without completing the treatment.
Sunaina Roshan sat for a candid conversation with News 18 Showsha, where she reflected on the difficulties she has faced in her life. She recalled the time when she was undergoing a treatment for her alcohol addiction and revealed that it was Hrithik Roshan who stressed on the importance of rehab. She shared that her brother made her understand why it was important for her to complete her rehab course. She was quoted as saying:
"There was a time when only family members were allowed to call us and that was the time when I really fought with my brother over the phone. After years, I yelled and screamed at him that I want to come back home. He was like, 'You are not coming back home. You have to finish this course and only then, come back home.' It was very very tough... Let her be there, let her go through these tough times because only then will she come out of it."
In the same conversation, Sunaina Roshan called Hrithik Roshan her biggest cheerleader. She revealed that he is the only person she needs validation from. She added that despite being younger than her, he has been an inspiration to her in several ways. Sunaina also addressed Hrithik's knee problem and stated how he works consistently despite being in pain. She was quoted as saying:
"Hrithik is my biggest cheerleader. He is always happy and he is one person I need validation from. Because, even though he is younger than me, he is still my little brother, and I look up to him in so many different ways. The way he works out, the way he is so disciplined, consistent, and hardworking. He has a knee problem but he will go and dance and finish it off, no matter how much pain he is in. He has been very inspiring for me too."
Earlier in an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Sunaina Roshan opened up about her struggle with alcohol and called it the worst phase of her life. She revealed that her family took away her credit cards and sent her to rehab to get sober. Recalling the struggles in rehab she shared that she had 5-6 counsellors who would always keep a watch on her. She was quoted as saying:
"It was tough. Alcoholism is when you don’t have control over your drinking. I was going through a very difficult time. I was very emotionally vulnerable, and to numb my emotions, I started drinking. I believe it was the most difficult phase of my life. I had fallen off beds and injured myself. It’s a very vicious cycle to be in. For a couple of months, I wasn't given any money, my credit cards were taken away, and it was a very unpleasant situation for me to be in."
Sunaina Roshan began her career as a film producer in 2008 with the film, Krazzy 4. She later produced her brother, Hrithik Roshan's film, Kites in 2010. However, it failed to perform well on the box office. She then produced Krrish 2 in 2013.
