How Did Tyler Robinson's Parents Get Him Arrested? Here's What The Offical Court Document Reveals

It has been more than ten days since conservative activist, Charlie Kirk was brutally shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. The tragedy has shaken the United States and the world. The 30-year-old founder of Turning Point USA was holding a Q&A session when he was fatally struck in the neck by a bullet. But what shocked many even more was the revelation that the suspect is just 22 years old. The authorities have filed charging documents in the case, and they detail how his parents got him arrested and why he had reportedly taken the big step. Here's what we know. 

How did Charlie Kirk's parents turn him in to the local sheriff's office?

According to charging documents filed in Utah state court, Tyler Robinson of Washington County, Utah, was identified as the alleged gunman in Charlie Kirk's death. The filings reveal that Tyler's mother recognised her son's resemblance in FBI-released images of the suspect. She immediately raised her concerns to her husband, who noticed that the rifle shown in police photos looked identical to the one their son owned.

Court documents reveal that his parents and a family friend urged him to turn himself in after confronting him at their home. Tyler allegedly mentioned to his parents that he was the shooter. At the same time, he initially resisted surrender, telling them he "just wanted to end it." But eventually, with guidance from a retired law enforcement officer close to their family, he was taken to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and he surrendered there.

Recalling his first reaction, Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby said:

"My first thought is, who died? I couldn't fathom what actually came out of his mouth. He said, 'Hey, I know who Charlie Kirk's shooter is."

Why did Tyler Robinson allegedly shoot Charlie Kirk?

According to CNN, the documents also revealed Tyler's alleged motive. Prosecutors claimed that he told his parents that Charlie used to "spread too much hate". Later, in a note found at his residence, Tyler allegedly penned, "I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it." Moreover, his mother told investigators that over the past year, Robinson had shifted left politically and openly supported LGBTQ+ rights. At the same time, Tyler was in a relationship with a transgender roommate that contrasted with Charlie's outspoken opposition to such causes. Consequently, authorities speculated that these personal and ideological tensions may have influenced Tyler's alleged decision,

Who is Tyler Robinson and his parents? 

Meanwhile, Tyler Robinson briefly attended Utah State University in 2021. He grew up in Washington, Utah, with his parents and two younger brothers. His mother, Amber Jones Robinson, works with Intermountain Support Coordination Services. On the other hand, his father, Matthew Robinson, is a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. The court filings and media reports suggest that it was his father's intervention that ultimately convinced him to surrender.

As of now, the court of law is yet to decide on the decision and punishment in Charlie Kirk's death case, yet it will be important to see whether Tyler will get any consessions or not.
