Television actress, Hina Khan became a household name with her iconic role as ‘Akshara’ in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Since leaving the show in 2016, she has carved out a successful career, taking on diverse roles and projects. Today, Hina is fighting a much tougher battle — stage 3 breast cancer. Despite multiple surgeries and gruelling treatments, she remains resilient. A major source of her strength, she says, is her longtime partner, Rocky Jaiswal.
Hina Khan made a guest appearance in the latest episode of the cooking reality show, Celebrity Masterchef, bringing along her partner, Rocky Jaiswal. In an emotional revelation, Hina shared Rocky’s unwavering support during her battle with this critical disease, standing by her and seeing those scars she herself is scared to face. The actress shared:
“He is the one who soothes those scars. He looks at them more closely than I do. He asks me, ‘How is it today? Is it any better?’ It’s hard for me to look at myself, but he does—instantly. He goes to the bathroom, cries, and comes back. He doesn’t even cry in front of me. He has started loving me even more than he did before. May each and every girl in this universe get a partner like him.”
Long before this personal battle, Hina had already won hearts on television. Her journey to stardom began in 2009 with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Alongside Karan Mehra, who played 'Naitik', their on-screen chemistry turned them into one of television’s most beloved couples. The show became a massive hit, drawing audiences with its relatable storyline and emotional depth. But what many don’t know is that Hina almost didn’t get the role that changed her life.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, the show’s producer, Rajan Shahi, shared how he had to push hard for Hina to be cast as ‘Akshara’. Despite the channel’s reservations, Rajan had unwavering faith in her potential. He took full responsibility for her transformation, personally handling everything from styling and hair extensions to strict rehearsals.
Rajan revealed that he even funded an outdoor shoot in Jaipur himself, investing Rs. 40 lakh of his own money to give the show the best possible start. He promised the channel he would reimburse them if the show failed. His gamble paid off. Hina’s portrayal of 'Akshara' won over millions, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai became one of Indian television’s longest-running and most successful shows.
