Vinesh Phogat made everyone proud when she reached the Olympic wrestling final, becoming the first Indian woman to do so. Unfortunately, she was disqualified from the competition on the second day for being overweight by just 100 grams in the 50 kg category. Despite extreme efforts, she couldn't shed those few grams, and it cost her the chance to fight for the gold. After this disheartening news, several celebrities took to their social media accounts to send their best wishes to Vinesh for her fighting spirit.
However, veteran actress and politician, Hema Malini's remark on Vinesh's weight, in which she said that the wrestler needed to keep her weight in check, did not go down well with the online community. Hours later, the veteran actress took to her Instagram account to share a picture of Vinesh Phogat from the ongoing Olympics and also wrote a note for the wrestler, whom she called the 'heroine of this Olympics'.

In her note, Hema Malini mentioned that the whole country rallied behind the wrestler after her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024. She asked Vinesh not to lose her heart as she was meant for greater achievements. Talking about how she has a bright future ahead of herself, Hema added:
"Vinesh Phogat, the whole nation rallies behind you! You are our heroine of this Olympics. Do not lose heart - you are meant for great achievements and you have a bright future ahead of you! Just carry on bravely."
Soon, netizens took note of Hema Malini's post, and they started penning down their thoughts on it. One user said, "Shocked to hear ur initial comments .. Lost all respect for you." Another one wrote, "Abh hate milni lagi toh post daldi clever lady." Meanwhile, a third netizen mentioned, "She said 'weight ko kam karna zaroori hai' watch the news guys."

When the news about Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the Paris Olympics surfaced in the media, Hema Malini gave a media byte outside the Parliament and called it 'surprising'. Expressing her disbelief, the veteran actress said that it was hard to believe that someone could get disqualified for just 100 grams. While speaking with the PTI, she said:
"It is very surprising and bada ajeeb sa bhi lagta hain ki 100 gm ki wajah se woh disqualify ho gayi. Kitna mehatwa hain apna weight aur wazan ko theek se rakhna! Hum sab ko isse ek achha seekh milna chahiye sab kalakaro ko, mahilayon ko sabko… ki 100 gm also matters a lot! We feel very sad for her. I wish she loses that 100 grams quickly lekin milega nahi abhi."
A day after the disqualification news, Vinesh Phogat also announced her retirement from wrestling.
