Vinesh Phogat was supposed to compete for the gold medal in the women's wrestling 50kg category on August 7, 2024. However, during the weight check conducted in the morning before the game, she was found to be 100gm overweight than the allowed weight. It led to her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024, which has saddened the country.

Many celebrities came forward to share their views and support for Vinesh Phogat. However, BJP MP, Hema Malini's statement left everyone stunned. In her conversation with the PTI, the actress said she was surprised over Vinesh's disqualification. However, it is a lesson for everyone to keep their weight in check to ensure opportunities don't slide out of hand. She was quoted as saying:
“It is very surprising and bada ajeeb sa bhi lagta hain ki 100 gm ki wajah se woh disqualify ho gayi. Kitna mehatwa hain apna weight aur wazan ko theek se rakhna! Hum sab ko isse ek achha seekh milna chahiye sab kalakaro ko, mahilayon ko sabko… ki 100 gm also matters a lot! We feel unfortunate for her. I wish she loses that 100 grams quickly lekin milega nahi abhi."
Hema Malini is a famous actress in Bollywood and a BJP MP in Lok Sabha. Netizens were unhappy with her comments and found it silly to troll her. One user wrote, "Horrible and Senseless" and another wrote, "Silence would have been a better choice." Some even tagged PTI and wrote, "Why are you asking her?"
