The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set new rules and regulations after India lost to New Zealand and Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. New Zealand whitewashed India, while Australia won the five-match test series. The BCCI conducted a review meeting after India lost, and according to the new protocol, the family time of players has been restricted. They must take part in domestic cricket and have been told to travel by bus. Now, Harbhajan Singh sent a blunt text to BCCI. Here's what happened.
Earlier, in an interview with PTI, Harbhajan reacted to BCCI's policies and the legend said that team India did not lose the match due to family members of the cricketers. He said ignorance was the issue and felt India did not lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia due to cricketers' wives or family members. Harbhajan said:
"Hum log mudde se bhatak rahein hain. We didn't lose 1-3 because wives and partners were there for two months. We didn't lose because someone travelled separately. We didn't bat well even at home. We have players who are horribly out of form. What are the course corrections being made? Or is it just these off-the-field things being discussed?"
Harbhajan also stated that the rules of BCCI for new players needing to limit family time to 14 days when on a 45-day tour existed when he was playing for team India, too. He felt that the main reason for India's loss was poor cricket. The BCCI has told cricket players to take part in domestic cricket strictly; failure to do so would result in them being banned or removed from the players list.
Harbhajan also shared that nine out of 10 points, including family time, hotel stay, and practice, are the same. He wanted an investigation to be done if these rules were there in his time and who changed for what reason. 'Bhajji' also shared:
"We are not talking about the main issue of poor performance. We didn’t lose because of wives and families’ presence for two months. We didn’t play good cricket in Australia and we didn’t bat well against New Zealand at home. Nobody is talking about these things, and the limelight is on the off-field stuff.”
Harbhajan, going ahead in the same interview, shared that his legendary teammates like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly never left the cricket team early just because the match ended in three days and the next game was a week away. He said:

"I think some of the points needed to be revisited because they were being flouted. Like in our times, I never saw a Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid or Anil Kumble leave for Mumbai, Kolkata or Bengaluru. They all stayed and travelled to next destination. Only change I see (in the new rulebook) is 150 kg suitcase allowance. Back in the day, we used to have lesser."
