Gulshan Grover Slapped Saanand Verma During Shoot, Says 'I Felt Like Slitting That Man's Throat'

You might know actor, Saanand Verma, for the quirky character he plays in the hit television serial, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain. While playing 'Saxena Ji' on the show, he has been slapped countless times. However, in a recent interview, he revealed how actor, Gulshan Grover, slapped him for real during the shoot of his web series First Copy. The lack of permission left Saanand not only disappointed in the veteran actor but also extremely angry. Irrespective of this, he chose to remain quiet and continue with the scene without revealing his feelings. 

Saanand Verma revealed how he felt after being slapped by Gulshan Grover for the first time

The Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai actor, Saanand Verma, recently opened up about his first-ever experience of being slapped by Gulshan Grover during an interview with Siddharth Kannan. The issue, according to the actor, was that Grover slapped him intentionally and without asking for his consent first, resulting in him being unable to brace himself for the slap. He stated:

“Gulshan Grover actually slapped me tightly in ‘First Copy’, for real. From the inside, I felt like slitting that man’s throat, but I didn’t say anything. I haven’t said anything till date, I’m revealing this for the first time here. He did it intentionally; that wasn’t acting.”

Saanand Verma revealed that the slap he received did not feel like the kind of slap actors use. Not only was the slap incredibly aggressive, but Gulshan Grover missed out on the most crucial part, that is, letting Saanand know beforehand that he was going to slap him for real. However, since they were shooting a vital scene and Saanand was in character, he completed his scene and left it alone, choosing not to say anything to anyone about it. 

People might think that it is not essential to give a disclaimer before an actual slap, but Saanand Verma strongly disagrees. When the host asked him if it was actually mandatory to give such a disclaimer, Saanand made his stance even clearer. According to him: 

“It is important to state that before. But he didn’t say that and slapped me aggressively. It is wrong. I was feeling furious, but didn’t say anything because I wanted to stay away from negativity. I felt like picking up a chair and beating him. I kept smiling, though.”

The actor further recounted being slapped thousands of times throughout his career. Especially when it comes to the show, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai, he claimed he is known for getting slapped on it. According to Saanand Verma, no actor has been slapped as much as he has during shoots. He also recounted how, during the shoot of Rani Mukherji-starrer Mardaani, he was supposed to get slapped in a scene, but the director was not happy with how it was translating on screen. Following this, Saanand gave his co-actor, Digvijay, permission to slap him for real. Through this incident, Saanand reiterates the importance of consent in scenes like these. 

Comparing Gulshan Grover to actor, Anil Kapoor, Saanand Verma stated that even a huge superstar like Kapoor has the courtesy to apologise after slapping someone for real. However, this was not the case for the former, since he is ‘self-obsessed' and ‘tied to an image of being a bad man'.
