Widowed women often face lifelong stigmas, restrictions and isolation in society. They are expected to live their life in a plain manner, and widow remarriage, especially in rural areas, is still considered a taboo in many parts of the country. But, a man from Gujarat has set an important example of compassion and progressive thinking as he got his widow daughter-in-law remarried in a traditional wedding after losing his son. At the same time, he arranged a wedding ceremony for her and bid an emotional goodbye to his one-year-old granddaughter, who went along with her mother.
Praveen Singh Rana is a resident of Ambaji in Gujarat who touched the hearts of people across the country by performing fatherly duties for his daughter-in-law. He lost his elder son, Siddhraj Singh, during Diwali 2025 after the latter suffered a sudden heart attack. The whole family was heartbroken over the incident, including Siddhraj's wife, Krishna and their six-month-old daughter, Dikshita. The loss left everyone shattered and people felt bad that Krishna would have to live her future life in mourning and raise her daughter without a father.
But Praveen had something else in mind. He treated his daughter-in-law like his daughter and got her remarried in a grand ceremony. At the same time, he gave away Krishna in marriage. Without caring about the opinions of society, he engaged in a conversation about marriage with his son's best friend, Sanjay. After the wedding, little Dikshita was seen emotionally waving towards her grandparents as she went away with her mother. Moreover, Krishna expressed her gratitude to her father-in-law.
Sanjay, Krishna's groom, interacted with the media. He shared that Siddhraj was his childhood friend and had known Krishna for some time. Sanjay assured Siddhraj's family that he would care for Krishna and her one-year-old daughter, Dikshita. In his words:
"I will take care of both. Sidhraj was my best friend. His wife, Krishna, is also my friend. I thought that supporting a child and her mother was the greatest work. I wanted to give my friend's daughter and daughter-in-law a new life. For this, I spoke to Siddrajs father, Praveen Singh. He agreed to get us married."
When the news about Praveen's inspiring act surfaced online, netizens were delighted over his decision to break patriarchal norms for his daughter-in-law. One netizen wrote, "Appreciate the way the family didn't make the daughter-in-law feel like any diferent and made her go as a daughter. Society really needs such wonderful changes. Really happy to see humanity and friendship are still there as the groom accepted the lady. May they both live happily." Another netizen penned, "Rare cases like this. A huge salute to that stronger father-in-law."
