Indian weddings are filled with rituals and ceremonies. From haldi, mehendi, and sangeet to pheras, each of the wedding rituals holds a special significance. Both of the bride and groom's families celebrate each of the occasion with utmost grace. With social media setting trends, people now love to take out notes and apply them in real life. Recently, a video made rounds on social media, where groomsmen tried to pull out a trend at the haldi ceremony of the groom, and it ended up sparking a debate online.
Recently, a video made rounds on social media, wherein the groom was seen dolled up in a yellow-toned kurta and white pyjama. He was seen surrounded by the groomsmen, who were enjoying their hearts out. In the viral video, the groom's face was seen smeared with haldi. However, instead of rose water, gulal, or milk, the groomsmen tried a new twist and showered the groom with different kinds of prohibited alcohol.
The groom was all drenched up in alcohol and he was also seen drinking. The happiness on the groom's and groomsmen's faces was simply unmissable. While it cannot be confirmed whether it's a real-wedding video or a reel, it sparked a debate among netizens.
While it was the groom's and the groomsmen's personal choice to celebrate the special day, the video ended up creating a debate among the netizens. While some of the internet users claimed that it was completely natural and it was their choice the way they wanted to celebrate their happiness, others found the idea to be weird and bizarre. Internet users claimed that using prohibited alcohol during a Hindu ritual was done with the intention to destroy the tradition in the disguise of modernism, which could have been avoided. Well, the video has left netizens with their opinions, and while some felt it to be right, others disagreed.
One user commented, "This is intentionally carried out under the guise of modernism to undermine and destroy Hindu tradition. Even though it is a happy fun ceremony, pouring alcohol was never a part of it." A second user penned, "Ceremonies are to enjoy not supposed to be "pious". Worry about beer and vodka." A third user took to the comment section and wrote, "Marriage as an institution is crumbled now. Earlier they were considered as sacred events. These days it's everything except sacred."

A Haldi ceremony is an Indian traditional pre-wedding ritual that generally takes place one or two days before the wedding. It is hosted at the bride and groom's respective parental houses and the elderly persons smear the bride and the groom with haldi, which signifies purity, auspiciousness, and the beginning of their new life. It's also said that one of the reasons to arrange a haldi ceremony is to prevent evil from harming the couple.
