Grimes Unveils 'Innovative' New Tattoo On Her Face, Has Been Working Up To It For 10 Years

Popular Canadian singer-songwriter, Grimes, shocked fans by debuting a face tattoo. She is no stranger to body modification and is covered with ink in an unorthodox way. On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Grimes revealed her face tattoo, which she believes is extremely ‘innovative’. Grimes shared a photo of her face tattoo, a giant ring surrounding her eye, saying she spent 10 years getting it. It surprised her that no one noticed her most risky face tattoo.

Grimes debuts with a face tattoo

Grimes, known for her tattoos, recently shared a selfie showing her wearing huge black glasses. It's not her glasses but the tattoo on her face that caught everyone’s attention. She did a half-circle tattoo around the left eye, peeking through. She mentioned that the tattoo was done by a cybersigilist named Glyphomancer. The singer wrote:

“Spent like ten years emotionally working up to a face tattoo, but I guess I drew on my face too much, and literally no one noticed, not even my parents, not even after the video lol. That said, I think @glyphomancer is onto something truly novel and innovative with her work, esp. on face tats – there’s a true beauty, delicacy, and innovation here imo. I feel like tats are in a crazy renaissance period that’s sort of underappreciated atm."

Grimes always wanted a face tattoo 

Grimes has always been very insistent about getting face tattoos. She constantly desired to transform her appearance. In June 2023, she posted a photo of her leg tattoos and wrote, “Changed my body from the way God made it, it reflects my altered mind.” Not just body, she's been talking about wanting a face tattoo for years, too. In 2022, she shared a selfie, writing in the caption, "I am very seriously considering getting a white ink tattoo on my face next week." And now that she has actually gotten one, fans have a lot to say about that.

How did the fans react?

The Genesis singer, Claire Boucher, revealed that she got inked on her face a few months ago and literally nobody noticed. She shared a makeup-free photo of herself with a large circle encompassing her left eye. Although her face tattoo is her new favourite, fans don’t really understand this. As soon as Grimes shared a photo of her face tattoo, fans flooded her comment section with their opinions. “So happy you did it, queen," wrote one user. “It looks so great on youuu," another commented. “The best, love you, Grimes," one comment read.

While some fans appreciated her tattoo, others seemed a bit confused. One of them wrote, “You could have the coolest face tattoo ever, but you have this instead. Amid the sea of haters, there were some positive responses: "everyone’s so mean I like it," and "It looks so great on youuu."

Grimes has 50 tattoos, 11 of which are covered or faded. Some of them get done by herself or her friends, but most are done by professional artists, most notably Delphine Noiztoy, ZHENJA 777R, Jancob (Tweakt), and glyphomancer.
