This year's Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, 2025, and will continue till February 26, 2025, is extra special as it allegedly comes once every 144 years. Pilgrims worldwide are flooding Prayaganj, Uttar Pradesh, to be a part of this auspicious event and mark a milestone in their spiritual journey. A heartwarming cross-cultural love story unfolded recently as Siddharth from India and Penelope from Greece tied the knot in a traditional Vedic ceremony at the Maha Kumbh.
On January 26, 2025, Siddharth and Penelope decided to seal his fate with his Greek girlfriend, Penelope at the Maha Kumbh. Siddharth, who has travelled worldwide to promote yoga and Sanatan Dharma, revealed that when he proposed to Penelope, he gave her a choice — Greece or India. Without hesitation, she chose India, drawn to its spiritual essence. Talking to ANI, Siddharth shared:
“We are very grateful just to get married to each other, she is really special… When we decided on it, we wanted to do it in the most authentic manner which would be simple yet divine, and for that, we chose Prayagraj, Maha Kumbh, this specific date (January 26).”
Siddharth also shared how he and his wife could not think of a better place other than the pilgrimage at Prayaganj, in the holy presence of saints. Expressing how both of them view marriage as an important institution and wanted a Vedic marriage, Siddharth shared:
“We know at this point of time that this is probably the best place not just in the country or in the world but in the universe where all forms of divinity, pilgrimages: everything is present here. You meet such great souls. We meet Maharaj ji (Swami Yatindranand Giri) and get his blessings and this is such a pleasure for the heart and the soul.”
Penelope, who had previously followed Buddhism, shared that her spiritual journey led her to adopt Sanatan Dharma. She described the experience as "magical beyond words," expressing her excitement about embracing Indian culture and traditions. She shared:
“I think what has happened today is something magical beyond words and it is only when I see some of the pictures that I realise we were experiencing divine energy. I have never attended an Indian wedding, and today I was the bride so everything was new to me but at the same time very familiar. What happened was a ceremony, I was married with a more spiritual way, according to Vedic scriptures, and it was amazing.”

As videos and pictures of the couple’s wedding surfaced online, netizens were quick to shower blessings and warm wishes. One user commented, “Mahadev bless you both”, while another welcomed Penelope by writing “Swagatam—Suswagatam”. Netizens lauded Penelope for putting sindoor and wearing sankha in her hands, and a comment read: “Westen women wearing sindur, sankha and showing it proudly and some Indian women be like- its a sign of regressive, brahman patriarchy, why men don't wear sindoor blah blah.”
