Govinda is one of the most talented and versatile actors in Bollywood, who is popularly known for his signature dance style, which is called 'Govinda style'. In the era, when Bollywood's dance songs were all about rehearsed precision and good choreography, it was Govinda's moves that were about happiness, energy and charm. Recently, on his appearance on the talk show, Two Much With Kajol And Twinkle, Govinda opened up about his struggles of dancing on-screen.
In the upcoming episode of Two Much With Kajol And Twinkle, Govinda and Chunky Panday will appear as guests. During their candid conversation, Govinda opened up about how the signature 'Govinda style' was developed. In an unexpected confession, he also mentioned that he is not a trained dancer. According to a report by Money Control, Govinda recalled an incident from the early days of struggling in dance and shared:
"I was not a dancer at all. No no. I was threatened and everything was going fine but they showed me the dance of Jaaved Jaaferi from Meri Jung. I was awestruck and they said these are Michael Jackson moves. I asked who he was. Pahlaj (Nihlani) ji said 'Did you see his moves? If you can't beat his moves then your career will end before it begins. I told him sir I will definitely try this."
Hero no. 1 actor, Govinda continued to add that to learn the particular dance step, he approached Saroj Khan to help him in the same. But the late dancer said that he was already good in the step. In his words:
"Then I had to pursue Saroj Khan ji. I asked her to guide me. She just wasn't ready and said that 'I didn't need to do all that.' She said I was good at what I was already doing. I agreed saying that copying someone else's style was not a good thing."
During the same candid conversation on the show, Two Much With Kajol And Twinkle, Govinda revealed that while Saroj Khan helped him learn the dance step, it was Kamal master, who taught Govinda to communicate through his moves. He gave the actor a unique style, which went on to become the ‘Govinda style’. He was quoted as saying:
"It was then Kamal master who gave my own style. He showed me how to communicate through my moves. I asked him how was is possible, he would extract some excerpts from the lyrics of the songs and we would dance on those. So, it started with Kamal master ji. I learnt dancing from Saroj ji but Kamal master ji gave me my style what became 'Govinda Style', he said during the show."
