Govinda Shared Sunita's Reaction When He Asked His Mom Before Having Champagne, 'She Had A Look...'
Govinda once shared how his wife, Sunita Ahuja, made a sarcastic look when he called and asked his mother before having champagne with her.
Govinda has been among the most successful self-made stars in Bollywood. He made his debut with Ilzaam in 1986 and made a place in people's hearts with films like Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Aankhen, Deewana Mastana, Hero No.1, and more. Amid the actor's busy life, his wife, Sunita Ahuja, played an important role as a companion at every step of his life. However, after 37 years of togetherness, media reports have revealed that the couple might part ways due to the actor's closeness with a 30-year-old Marathi actress and other differences. But, it's not the first time that the couple had differences over something. In an old interview, Govinda shared how he and his wife had a different opinion when they drank champagne for the 1st time.

Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, once appeared on the show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal and discussed a humorous incident during the initial days of their relationship. He revealed that he once took Sunita to have dinner at The Taj Hotel to celebrate her birthday. Since they were in a mood to celebrate, they ordered champagne. In Sunita's words:
"We went up, sat, and said, 'Let's have champagne.' I said, 'Yes, let's have something new.' So he ordered one, we sipped one…"
The moment to dine at The Taj Hotel was significant for the Bhagam Bhag actor since he had earlier got rejected to work as a steward at the hotel. But, before taking his first sip of the drink, he stopped and called up his mother, Nirmala Devi, to ask her permission before drinking with Sunita. However, Sunita, who sat across from him, was stunned by his gesture and made a sarcastic look over it. He said:
“And I rang mummy, ‘Mummy, piyu ki nahi piyu.’ Mom said, 'aha tum pioge? Aadat to bahut buri hai. Tumhe enjoy karna hai. Tum enjoy karo. And she had a look on her face 'pucha apni mummy se."

Govinda's mother and Sunita Ahuja shared a cordial bond. However, before tying the knot, the couple had made many efforts to ensure she liked Sunita. During her appearance on the Timeout With Ankit podcast, Sunita revealed that she got married at 18 as Govinda's mother was getting old and wanted to see him married. Sharing how she changed wearing mini skirts that Govinda's mom didn't like, the star wife revealed:
"I went from wearing miniskirts to sarees. That's why my husband used to hate me. I would tell him, 'I'm from Bandra. You're from Virar, boss'. Film industry mein heroines chhote kapde pehan ke aa gayi toh chalega. Biwi ne pehna toh nahi chalega.”

Govinda and Sunita met when his uncle tied the knot with her elder sister. They met through the wedding at a young age and often quarrelled. Soon, the fights turned into love, and they tied the knot in March 1987. Sunita stood by the actor through thick and thin and welcomed two kids together: a daughter, Tina, and a son, Yashvardan Ahuja.
