Govinda is one of the greatest actors ever in the history of Indian cinema. The list is quite short when we talk about superstardom, but without a shadow of a doubt, Govinda's name fits it perfectly. However, the iconic actor's name fits in another list that is about the Bollywood greats who diminished eventually. Fast forward to 2025, and on March 7, Govinda suffered a major heartbreak.
The iconic actor, Govinda, lost his childhood friend named Shashi Prabhu on Thursday and attended his funeral on the same day at 10 pm in the night. As per the reports, Shashi died due to some prolonged heart-related illness that eventually took his life. The actor was spotted crying during the funeral, which clearly speaks volumes about his bond with Shashi Prabhu.
As per the report, as soon as Govinda was informed about the unfortunate demise of his former secretary, Shashi Prabhu, the actor left everything and immediately reached his residence. Upon reaching Shashi's home, he consoled the family members and looked quite emotional during the funeral of his close aide. According to a report in News X, Govinda and Shashi have been friends since childhood.
Once, in an old interview with a publication, Govinda's current secretary, Shashi Sinha, talked about the actor's bond with his ex-secretary, Shashi Prabhu and labelled them as "brothers". Opening up about Prabhu's presence in Govinda's life, Sinha said that when the actor came to Mumbai in search of work, Prabhu helped him with a series of things. Sinha also added that right from the initial stages of Govinda's filmy career till now, Prabhu was with him before finally departing to the heavenly abode on March 6, 2025. He said:
"He (Shashi Prabhu) was Govinda's childhood friend. From the very beginning, they shared a close bond, and for many years, he also worked for Govinda. I got to know him later. But during Govinda's early struggles, he was like a brother to him. Govinda loved him like a brother, and their relationship remains the same to this day."
According to a report in ETimes, Govinda's former secretary, Shashi Prabhu, was often credited for bringing the iconic actor into politics. Once, in an old interview with Rediff in 2004, Shashi Prabhu clearly stated that he was the one who advised Govinda to enter into politics. When asked about the actor's vision for his constituency, Mumbai North, Prabhu listed a series of development plans, again proving that he was the anchor behind Govinda's political career. From making speeches to creating catchy slogans, Prabhu was heavily involved in Govinda's political journey. He said:

"Yes, I advise him, but insist that he do what he thinks is best. I may be senior to him in politics, but it's not necessary that seniors are better than juniors."
For the unversed, Govinda was a member of parliament from 2004 to 2009. He was a member of the Indian National Congress Party. However, before the Lok Sabha Elections in 2024, Govinda joined Shivsena. The actor returned to politics after a gap of 14 years. It will be interesting to see how he will continue his political journey without the presence of his dear friend, Shashi Prabhu.
We hope God gives immense strength to Shashi Prabhu's family and loved ones during this tragic phase.
