Good American Family: Natalia Grace's Chilling Story, Dwarf Orphan Accused Of Trying To Kill Parents

Good American Family's official trailer was released on Hulu's YouTube channel on February 19, 2025, and it broke the internet as expected. The series is going to have eight episodes and will be premiered on Hulu and Disney Plus on March 19, 2025. Katie Robbins has created the show, Good American Family starring Ellen Pompeo (Kristine Barnett, Natalia's adoptive mother), Mark Duplass (Michael Barnett, Natalia's adoptive father) and Imogen Faith Reid (Natalia Grace).

As soon as the trailer was dropped, Ellen Pompeo’s massive fanbase went absolutely crazy. The iconic Hollywood actress, Ellen Pompeo is best known for her work in the American medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy. The 55-year-old actress was last seen in the American reality TV series, Martha Gets Down and Dirty. Hence, seeing her come to a show that is based on a real-life controversial case after such a long time is a treat for her massive fanbase.

Apart from Ellen Pompeo’s stardom, the reason why Good American Family is leading Google searches is because the Hulu show is based on the real-life infamous case of Ukrainian orphan, Natalia. Over the years, we have seen several web series and documentaries covering this iconic case. From the Discovery series titled The Curious Case of Natalia Grace to Natalia’s appearance in one of the episodes of American talk show, Dr. Phil, it is one of the most-talked-about cases in American history. Who is Natalia Grace? Meet the Ukrainian orphan suffering from a rare form of dwarfism who has been left by three families so far

Natalia Grace was born on September 4, 2003, in Ukraine, and after her birth, she was placed in an orphanage. The little girl was diagnosed with Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, a rare form of dwarfism. However, in the following years, she came to the United States of America as an adoptee and was adopted by an American couple, Dyan Ciccone and Gary Ciccone, in 2008. What’s strange is that after being with Natalia for some months, the Ciccone family relinquished parental rights due to the Ukrainian orphan's disruptive behaviour.

After Natalia Grace left the Ciccone family, she was adopted by Kristine Barnett and Michael Barnett in 2010. The American couple already had three sons but always wanted to adopt a child. When they started staying in the same house, the Barnett family suspected Natalia was an older person who was faking to be a teen. Kristine Barnett and Michael Barnett also accused Natalia of being a ‘sociopath’ who tried to kill them. The case went to court after the Barnett family tried to change Natalia’s legal age from 2003 to 1989.

When Natalia Grace was with the Barnett family, the couple moved to Canada and completely cut off contact with their adoptive daughter. It was when Natalia came in contact with Antwon Mans and Christian Pastor, who adopted her legally in 2023. However, after some months, Natalia ran out of their house at midnight after an argument with the Mans, over her boyfriend, Neil. After running away from the Mans family, who accused Natalia of being the “enemy in the house”, she is now living with the DePaul family.

The case is all over the news, and while it is a fact that Natalia Grace was left by three families, Ciccone, Barnett, and Mans, it is also true that none of the accusations against her have been proven. People who are on Natalia’s side have been saying time and again that she was reportedly abused when she was in Ukraine as an orphan, which is why she is a bit disturbed.

However, it’s hard to imagine that none of the three previous families, Ciccone, Barnett, and Mans, have failed to love her like their own child. But it could be possible because Natalia is living peacefully with her current family, DePaul, which once again leaves the field wide open for conclusions and speculations about who is right and who is wrong.
