Genelia Deshmukh On Bollywood Comeback With 'Sitaare Zameen Par': 'Thought People Would Forget Me'

Genelia Deshmukh's return with Sitaare Zameen Par proved that she is always going to be the people's favourite actress. The actress was last seen in the film, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, post which she featured in OTT films, It's My Life and Mister Mummy. Recently, Genelia talked about her comeback film and how it became a massive hit. Genelia revealed that she thought people must have forgotten her, but the reality was the exact opposite. 

Genelia Deshmukh talked about her comeback in Bollywood and how she felt like she 'didn't mattered'

Recently, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Genelia Deshmukh revealed that she didn't worked in films for the past ten years. After which, she worked in OTT, and it made her feel that people might have forgotten her and she didn't mattered. She added that it made her feel good that people still wanted to see her act in films. The actress was quoted as saying:

"]I didn’t do much work for the last 10 years, maybe for friends, a song here and there. I did two-three films for OTT. I thought people would forget me and I didn’t think I mattered. But it’s refreshing to hear people say all this—that they want to see more. It’s an Aamir Khan film, so of course it would have had a lot more eyeballs. I didn’t think that somewhere in that takeaway, I also exist. It’s been the best compliment—that people want to see more of me. As an actor and human being, if someone wants to see you a lot more, it’s a very special place that not everyone gets."

Further, in the interaction, Genelia Deshmukh revealed that Aamir wanted to cast her and so he met her husband, Riteish to ask if she was working. After which, Aamir asked her to meet RS Prasanna for audition, and she go the role. Recalling the moment, Genelia said:

"Aamir asked me to meet RS Prasanna, the director. I auditioned for the role and got it. I know most actors will feel that after 20 years, ‘Why audition?’ But I think it’s a great way of getting a film, so I am very excited that I did it."

Aamir Khan's film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is directed by RS Prasanna, and it features Genelia D'Souza in the lead, along with ten debutant actors including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. The film revolved around a suspended basketball coach, dealing with anger issues, who is forced to train a team of specially-abled children. The process of training the neurodivergent adults changed his perspective on life. The fans have been lauding Aamir for touching the sensitive subject with utmost grace and beauty.
