One of the most sought-after industries in the country, Bollywood is known for its glitz, glam and stunning couples. Nearly every year, we see countless of our favourite celebs getting hitched to their soulmates in a dreamy wedding, and their moments captured reinstate our faith in the power of love. However, B-Town, too, houses many such unhappy people who have got married thrice or more to find their destined soulmates. Check out these 15 celebs who were third-time lucky or more in marriage.
One of the most legendary singers and music composers in Bollywood, the iconic, Kishore Kumar needs no introduction. He has been recognised as no less than the golden voice of Hindi films, lending his voice to countless chartbusters and other music of every mood. However, his professional success did not quite match up to his personal life. Kishore had been married four times.
His first marriage was with legendary Bengali singer, actress and iconic filmmaker, Satyajit Ray’s niece, Ruma Guha Thakurta, in the year 1950. The couple was blessed with a son, Amit Kumar in the year 1952. However, their relationship soon started to ebb away as Kishore wanted Ruma to forego her musical career and remain a housewife. Therefore, the couple amicably parted ways in 1958.
After his divorce from first wife, Ruma, Kishore Kumar soon after found his solace in Bollywood’s queen and acting diva at the time, Madhubala. Their affair was all over the headlines, as many were startled at Kishore finding love shortly after his divorce. The madly-in-love couple nevertheless decided to take the plunge and get married. It was reported that Kishore Kumar had converted to the Islam faith and changed his name to Karim Abdul in order to get married to Madhubala. While Kishore’s family did not accept their marriage, even after the couple arranged for a Hindu civil court marriage to appease them. Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived, as Madhubala passed away in 1969 after battling a prolonged heart disease.
Well, Madhubala’s untimely demise left a huge void in the heart of Kishore Kumar, who took many years to recuperate from it. In the year 1976, Kishore Kumar married an upcoming actress of her time, Yogeeta Bali. Interestingly, Kishore and Yogeeta’s marriage culminated at a time when the latter had been in love with her co-actor, Mithun Chakraborty, creating an animosity between Kishore and Mithun. Unfortunately, Kishore and Yogeeta’s marriage did not last long and the couple got separated two years later in 1978.

With such continuous ill fate at love, Kishore took the fourth plunge into marriage with one of most-sought after actresses of her time in Bollywood, Leena Chandravarkar in 1980. The duo had met through Leena’s late husband and the then-Chief Minister of Goa, Sidharth Bandodkar, who had introduced the duo on very friendly terms. After Leena was left a widow by her husband, Kishore and Leena gradually developed feelings for each other and finally got married. The couple was blessed with a son, Sumit Kumar in 1984. Till Kishore’s last breath, his fourth wife, Leena was with him at all times.
One of the eminent filmmakers and subsequent actors of the early 70s Bollywood era, V. Shantaram has been highly accoladed for his contributions to the industry. Some of his incredible works include films like Pinjra, Navrang, Amar Jyoti among others. Despite directing picture-perfect lives for his characters in the film, his personal life had been seemingly the opposite to it.
At the age of merely 20 and even before his first step into filmmaking, V. Shantaram was married to a girl of 12 from his village community, Vimalabai in 1921. The couple was blessed with three daughters and a son. With all his children settled, the couple had parted a few years later.
In the year 1941, V. Shantaram got married to the famous actress, Jayashree, after having formed their relationship over their film together, Shakuntala. The couple was blessed with two daughters and a son. However, the couple parted ways in 1956.
V. Shantaram got married for the third time to the leading actress of his films, Sandhya Deshmukh. The duo had worked together in some of the most successful films of Shantaram, like Amar Bhopali, Parchaiyan among others. Interestingly, the duo did not have any children, and Sandhya instead bonded well with Shantaram’s children from his first wife, Vimalabai. The couple stayed together right up to V. Shantaram’s death in 1990.
The original disco dancer of Bollywood, Mithun Chakraborty became an overnight sensation with his suave dance moves and powerful dialogues. He had proven his versatile skills by mesmerising audiences equally in Hindi, Bengali, Telegu and Odia languages. However, the actor’s personal life has sought more limelight than his befitting glorious film career.
After his break up with leading Bollywood actress, Sarika, Mithun tied the knot with his long-time model-turned-actress ladylove, Helena Luke in 1979. Helena’s wedding with Mithun was immediately highlighted as a much-needed break from her previous relationship with actor, Javed Khan. Unfortunately, Mithun and Helena’s marriage was short-lived and the duo parted ways just five months after their wedding.
Soon after, B-Town began gossiping with the rumours of Mithun’s rekindled love with ex-girlfriend and leading actress, Yogeeta Bali. It was precisely the time when Yogeeta had just suffered the pangs of a broken marriage with her ex-husband, Kishore Kumar. The duo found their way to each other’s hearts soon after and got married in 1979 itself. The couple is blessed with three sons: Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Ushmey Chakraborty and Namashi Chakraborty. The couple later also adopted a girl, Dishani Chakraborty.
Despite leading a happy life, cracks seemed to appear between the relationship of Yogeeta and Mithun by 1985 as the latter’s close proximity with the leading diva, Sridevi was questionable to many. It was also later reported that Mithun’s extra-marital affair with Sridevi turned serious when he actually married her in secret in 1985. However, their marriage was forcefully called off in 1988, when Mithun’s lawfully wedded-wife, Yogeeta threatened him with suicide. Sridevi and Mithun parted ways and the latter was made to return to his second wife.
Vinod Mehra had been recognised as one of the most charming actors of the 80s decade of Bollywood. Despite coming from a non-filmy background, Vinod made a name for himself in the industry. Some of his much-loved films included the likes of Bees Saal Baad, Amar Prem, The Burning Train among countless others. However, the actor despite his glorious film career seems to have found his soulmate after being third time lucky.Vinod Mehra got married for the first time in 1974 to Meena Broca, an arranged match made by his mother. The couple reportedly did not consummate their wedding since Vinod had suffered a heart attack shortly after their wedding. Being a childless couple, the duo parted ways in 1978.
It was right through the years of his wedding with Meena that Vinod had developed a deep affection for his frequent leading lady in films, Bindiya Goswami. While many speculated that Vinod’s divorce from his ex-wife was because of Bindiya, the duo nevertheless eloped together and got married in 1980. Their marriage was short loved and the couple filed for divorce in 1984.
In 1988, Vinod married Kiran who had been the daughter of a Kenya-based businessman and Vinod’s previous acquaintance. The couple was blessed with two children, and it was the only marriage of the actor which lasted until his death in 1990.
Legendary actor and a heartthrob of millions, Kamal Haasan has been known as one of the most successful actors across the Hindi and Telugu film industries. The actor had commanded a large fan base, courtesy of his handsome looks and power-packed acting skills. Interestingly, the actor, too had been married thrice in his life.
Kamal got married for the first time at the age of 24 to classical dancer, Vani Ganapathy in 1978. The duo had met while working together on many films. Post-marriage, Vani took to handling the costumes department of many of Kamal’s movies among those of others. After ten years of marriage, the couple divorced in 1988.
Months after his divorce, Kamal reportedly moved into a live-in relationship with his co-actress and girlfriend, Sarika. Their affair reached a pinnacle when the couple welcomed their daughter, Shruti out of wedlock. It was after the birth of their first child that they got married. The couple later welcomed their second daughter, Akshara in 1991. Sarika quit acting post-marriage and took up the hat of costume designer for many of Kamal’s films. The couple, however separated amicably in 2004.
Kamal Haasan’s life took a new turn when he began dating fellow actress, Gautami Tadimalla in 2005. While many believed it was nothing more than a casual fling, it was also reported the couple had not just moved in together, but also had secretly married one another. The couple, unfortunately got divorced in 2016.
