Michael Schumacher is famously known as a Formula One legend. However, recently his identity was confused with Wisconsin-based author, Michael Schumacher, who passed away at the age of 75. The two shared the same name, which led the internet to believe that the F1 racer is the one who died.
For the unversed, Michael Schumacher, the author, is known for his wide range of biographies. He took his last breath on December 29, 2025, at the age of 75. His daughter, Emily Joy Schumacher, was the one who shared the announcement of his passing, but no cause of death was revealed.

However, the announcement led many to believe that seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher had died. This widespread confusion made fans pour in tribute notes. Social media platforms began expressing their grief over the loss of the racing legend. One user wrote, "The man, the myth, the legend @MichaelSchumacher has died."

Another one penned, "Rest in peace, Michael. You are truly a hero. However, soon netizens realised that they were tagging the wrong Michael. One user cleared the confusion and mentioned how he knows two individuals with the same name. It can be read as "I just found out today that there are two people named Michael Schumacher in the world." Another one commented, "Reports of Michael Schumacher’s passing at 75 refer to the famous US biographer, not the 7-time F1 World Champion. For those who didn't click the link." Another netizen wrote, "Michael Schumacher not the legendary Racing Driver but the acclaimed Biographer has died please don’t go all panicky it’s just someone who happens to share the same name as F1’s greatest."

This is not the first time that death rumours of an F1 racer have circulated on the internet. It was in December 2013 that Michael Schumacher met with a terrible accident. He was skiing with his son in the French Alpine resort of Meribel. During the skiing, he fell down and hit the right side of his head on a rock. What followed was a medically induced coma for four months.
