Former Cricketer, Sourav Ganguly To Make His Acting Debut With 'Khakee: The Bengal Chapter'

Sourav Ganguly left all by surprise with his speculated debut in the acting world. The former Indian cricket team captain, popularly called the Maharaja of Indian cricket, retired from International cricket in 2008 and from all forms in 2012. After that, in 2019, he was elected the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. A position he served for three years.

The speculations surrounding the former cricket legend started after a picture of Sourav Ganguly surfaced online. In the shared picture, the former cricketer could be seen dressed in a police uniform. And since, he has been alleged to make his acting debut in an advertisement for the upcoming Netflix web series. His involvement in the project has created intrigue about the upcoming series, with fans eager to see Sourav in a new role. 

The web series will also star Jeet and Prosenjit Chatterjee. According to sources, Sourav will shoot for the advertisement at Binodini Studio in Baruipur. In the picture, he is dressed in a khaki uniform, which has now gone viral, fuelling speculation about his role in the series. However, the details of Sourav's involvement in Khakee: The Bengal Chapter are not clear; this might mark a new chapter in the career of the Prince of Calcutta. 

Filmmaker, Neeraj Pandey reacts to speculations about Sourav Ganguly's involvement in Khakee: The Bengal Chapter

While there has been no confirmation from Sourav Ganguly himself, the maker of the series, Neeraj Pandey, has reacted to the speculations. The filmmaker was present for the trailer launch of the Netflix series in Kolkata. During his interaction with the media, he was asked about Sourav's appearance in the crime drama. 

Responding to the media personnel, Neeraj Pandey chuckled and responded that they would just have to keep looking when Sourav Ganguly was concerned. Though the filmmaker didn't say much, the hint has only made the speculations stronger. He was quoted as saying:

"As far as Sourav is concerned... keep looking."

The Netflix series, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, caught the audiences' attention with the news of Sourav Ganguly's involvement in the series. The trailer for the highly anticipated Khakee: The Bengal Chapter was released on March 5, 2025, at an event in Kolkata. The latest addition to the acclaimed Khakee franchise delves into politics, inter-gang rivalries, and the police system, offering a thrilling blend of action, drama, and unexpected twists. 

Produced by Friday Storytellers, the series was created by Neeraj Pandey and directed by Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti Ray. The series, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter is said to be set in the early 2000s. The series will follow the story of IPS officer, Arjun Maitra as he takes on the power dynamics between gangsters and politicians who once operated without fear of consequence. Fearless and determined, Arjun will fight to uphold justice in a system tainted by corruption and loose loyalties.
