Farida Jalal Defends Sharmin Segal Amid The Constant Criticism, 'That's Her Capacity, Why Be Mean?'

Farida Jalal Defends Sharmin Segal Amid The Constant Criticism, 'That's Her Capacity, Why Be Mean?'

Farida Jalal is one of the stars of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. She has been leading the headlines as she defended actress, Sharmin Segal, who has been receiving much criticism for her expressionless acting. While Sharmin has been on the receiving end of trolls, many of her co-stars, including Richa Chadha, Taha Shah Badussha, and Aditi Rao Hydari, have come in defence of the actress.

Farida Jalal reacts to Sharmin Segal getting mocked for Heeramandi

Farida Jalal, who plays the role of 'Qudsia Begum' in Heeramandi, has now come in support of Sharmin Segal. Talking to India Today, the veteran actress reacted to the merciless trolling against Sharmin and mentioned that people should be kinder to the latter. Farida shared that Sharmin has given her best with whatever resources she has. Farida said:

“I know, I am not happy about this. Be kind. What her capacity as an actor is, she has done her best. I don’t feel the character needs to be very boisterous and loud, the role was not like that.”

Farida Jalal slammed people for being mean to Sharmin Segal

Farida Jalal also pointed out that people were being too mean to Sharmin Segal and slammed them. Talking about the same, Farida said that SLB's niece gave her best for the role and added that maybe that was her maximum capacity. She elaborated on Sharmin's role in the web series and said:

“What were you expecting? Yes, what you thought you needed… It’s ok, why should we be mean to the girl? Be kind, maybe that’s her capacity, just that much. I don’t think the real role was boisterous, it wasn’t. She is a shayara, she falls in love with my bacchha (Taha Shah’s character) and that’s it.”

When Aditi Rao Hydari came in support of Sharmin Segal amid brutal trolling

Meanwhile, in an interview with Puja Talwar, Aditi Rao Hydari shared her reaction to Sharmin Segal facing mean comments for her performance in Heeramandi. Speaking about the same, Aditi mentioned that it's unfair to pick on someone and be mean towards them for no reason. Adding that she feels bad for Sharmin, Aditi said:

"It's horrible to pick on anybody. I know some people like something and some people don't. There is a way to say it. It can get very mean. It has gotten very mean and I think it's not fair and it shouldn't happen like that. I don't know what else to say but I do feel bad. I think we should all understand it and be there for each other.”

Sharmin Segal claimed her Heeramandi acting was inspired by Meena Kumari's performance in Pakeezah

Now, in an interview with the ETimes, Sharmin Segal defended her performance in Heeramandi and revealed that she took inspiration from late legendary actress, Meena Kumari. She also added that she tried to watch Pakeezah 15 to 16 times before the shoot of Heeramandi. Accepting that it took her a while to get through the film as it was unlike any film she had seen before, Sharmin shared that she tried to inculcate the 'nothingness' of Meena Kumari's performance in her portrayal of 'Alamzeb'.
