Bollywood’s ace director and choreographer, Farah Khan has always been candid about her casting choices, and she did the same in her latest YouTube vlog. In a fun and lighthearted reunion with Shilpa Shirodkar, Farah revisited the time she rejected the actress for Dil Se’s iconic song, Chhaiya Chhaiya, citing her weight as the reason behind it. However, this time, she is willing to make up for the past.
Farah Khan has been having a fun time on her YouTube channel where she regularly posts vlogs with actors and celebrities. In her latest vlog, the director visited Shilpa’s home, accompanied by her cook, Dilip. Bigg Boss 18 finalist, Chum Darang was also seen visiting Shilpa’s residence. Farah and Shilpa had a fun conversation about the past. Shilpa humorously reminded Farah of her previous comment, where she shared the reason for not casting Shilpa for Chhaiya Chhaiya. Shilpa said:
"You had said I was at least 100 kilos. So you thought, ‘How will she get on the train? And if she does, where will Shah Rukh stand?’"
However, it looked more like a fun banter as the duo immediately burst into laughter, and Farah admitted feeling guilty about rejecting Shilpa for the song. But in an unexpected turn, she assured Shilpa by saying:
“If ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya 2’ ever happens, you are in it.”
Shilpa Shirodkar was a returning face in Bollywood cinema during the 1990s and appeared in several films, including Hum, Aankhen, Khuda Gawah and Gopi Kishan. Given her popularity and dance skills, she was Farah Khan’s first choice for the iconic song, Chhaiya Chhaiya from Dil Se, starring Shah Rukh Khan.
However, in her vlog with Bigg Boss 18 winner, Karan Veer Mehra, Farah recalled how, when she saw Shilpa, she had put on weight, and it made her rethink her casting choice. Recalling the incident, Farah told Karan:

“I came to Shilpa to ask her for ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’. But something must have happened to her because, at that time, she was at least 100 Kgs. So I thought ‘How will she get on the train?’ And if she gets on, where will Shah Rukh stand?”
Later, Shilpa also addressed the same in a chat with Siddharth Kannan, sharing how it would always bother her that she missed out on that iconic role just because of her weight. Ultimately, the song went to Malaika Arora, who danced her way into Bollywood history with the visually stunning sequence on a moving train.
After delivering back-to-back performances on the big screen during the 1990s, Shilpa Shirodkar paved her way into Indian television as well. She became a popular face on the small screen through numerous serials, such as Savitri Devi College & Hospital, and Ek Mutthi Aasman. Most recently, her stint in Bigg Boss 18 also earned her massive fame among new generation audiences.
If Chhaiya Chhaiya 2 ever becomes a reality, it might just be the perfect way for Farah Khan to right the past and give Shilpa Shirodkar the moment she once missed!
