Ethan Browne, the son of singer-songwriter Jackson Browne and his late wife, Phyllis Major, has died at age 52. Ethan was a model and actor, and he also followed in his father's footsteps to build a career in music. However, his budding career was cut short by his demise. Jackson Browne announced the death of his son in a statement released on social media on November 26, 2025. Jackson Browne lost his wife years back in an unfortunate incident, and now, with the loss of his elder son, he is deeply saddened. Ethan Browne's untimely death left everyone curious about the reason for his death.

What was the cause of Ethan Browne's death?

Ethan Browne's death left his friends, family, and fans heartbroken. The cause of demise has not been publicly disclosed. However, his father, singer Jackson Browne, detailed the moment when his body was discovered. Through an official statement, he announced that Ethan was 'found unresponsive in his home' on November 25, 2025.  After authorities were informed, the Los Angeles Coroner's Office investigated and listed the cause of death as 'deferred'.

Ethan Browne's mother had a tragic death when he was just two

Ethan Browne's mother, the model and actress Phyllis Major, died tragically when he was a toddler. She died by s*icide in March 1976 when Ethan was just two years old. Phyllis Major was 30 years old when she died from a barbiturate overdose. She had married musician Jackson Browne, Ethan's father, just four months before she died in late 1975. The loss meant Jackson Browne had to raise Ethan as a single father. Phyllis' sudden death shattered Jackson, and it took him six years to finally decide to get hitched again.

Ethan Browne's father remarried; however, the marriage did not last long

In 1981, Jackson Browne had a second marriage to Australian model Lynne Sweeney, which resulted in one child, a son named Ryan Browne. Ryan was born in 1982, and in 1983, after a year, Jackson and Lynne Sweeney got divorced. The reason for the couple's short-lived marriage was allegedly Jackson's public romance and lengthy affair with actress, Daryl Hannah. The separation was difficult for Jackson, and when asked about it in a 1983 interview, Jackson Browne stated:
