Stepdaughter Esha Verma Writes 'Cheers To The Villain' On Rupali Ganguly's Birthday, Then Deletes It

Anupamaa fame, Rupali Ganguly turned 48 on April 5, 2025. Over the past few months, the actress has not had the smoothest journey in showbiz, as well as in her personal life. Some of her co-stars threw shade at the actress for her behaviour on the sets which might have been a reason for them to leave the show. On the other hand, Rupali’s stepdaughter, Esha Verma, made serious allegations against her online, calling her ‘toxic,’ holding her accountable for breaking her parents’ marriage, and even bullying Esha. 

While the heated situation seemed to have settled down recently, Esha’s cryptic post on Rupali’s birthday has once again raised discussion, especially as she deleted it soon after.

Esha Verma’s cryptic post on Rupali Ganguly’s Birthday

On Rupali’s 48th birthday, her co-stars and colleagues showered love-filled wishes for the actress, but it was her stepdaughter Esha Verma’s post that grabbed eyeballs. Taking to her IG Stories, Esha seemingly threw shade at Rupali for being the ‘villain’ of her life. Sharing an image of Disney’s ‘Evil Queen’ from Snow White offering a cursed apple to the princess, Esha wrote:

“One last birthday post for today… Some birthdays deserve a toast – even if it’s to the villain. Cheers to the antagonist of the story.”

While Esha didn’t mention anyone’s name in the post, her message was clear. She soon deleted the story, but her subtle action was enough to bring the mother-daughter feud back into the spotlight. Only a day before this, on April 4, 2025, Esha shared another story on her Instagram, wherein she claimed that her side of the story was twisted. She wrote:

“They tried to twist my story. But I’m a US citizen. I’m protected. I’m free. And people are starting to see the truth.”

About the family rift

For those new to the drama, Esha Verma is the daughter of Rupali Ganguly’s husband, Ashwin K Verma and his ex-wife, Sapna Verma. In October 2024, an old comment by Esha resurfaced where she accused the Anupamaa actress of breaking her parents’ marriage, alleging that she was in an extramarital affair with Ashwin for twelve years when he was married to Sapna, and Esha was only three years old. She also accused Rupali of separating her from her father and that she didn’t let her talk to him. 

While Esha was seen posing with Rupali and Ashwin for family photos and seemed to have good relations with her stepmother, her sharp accusations sent shockwaves through the industry. Rupali reportedly responded with a Rs 50 crore defamation lawsuit, citing the damage to her reputation and the toll it took on her family, especially her then 11-year-old son, Rudransh.

Esha, who is currently based in the U.S., had briefly made her Instagram account private after the lawsuit, saying she wished to “move on.” But with her account now public again, together with the cryptic posts, the feud seems far from buried. Despite the personal turbulence, Rupali remains one of Indian TV’s most bankable stars.
