Esha Gupta is one of the stunning model-turned-actresses in Bollywood. She has been part of a number of films and proved her acting prowess. Apart from that, it is her sartorial choices at various events, she graces, which never miss a chance to grab the fashionmongers' eyes. Notably, it is her love for sarees which comes out every time she walks on a red carpet.
Esha Gupta's wardrobe seems to be a house of a variety of sarees, ranging from Kanjivaram, Banarasi, handlooms, and designer to many more, and she looks graceful donning them. Now, in a recent conversation with the ETimes, Esha opened up about her love for sarees, Indian handloom, traditional weaves and sustainability in fashion. However, she also revealed a secret about finding a treasure when she visited her ancestral home in Uttar Pradesh. She revealed:
“I’ve been wearing my mom and grandma’s sarees forever now. The sarees I discovered from my granny, I believe she got them when she got married, probably when she was just 15 or 16. Now, I have inherited them.”

Esha discovered a large wooden box lying unopened for years at her ancestral home in Uttar Pradesh. This belonged to her mother and grandmother, and contained the heirloom sarees passed down to them from generations. Thus, in the same conversation, Esha, who often digs into her mom and granny’s closets for some of their precious heirloom possessions, revealed how the ladies in her home wore the six yards of elegance with complete comfort. In Esha's words:
“I remember seeing my mother’s pictures. She would ride a bicycle in a saree to her university. It wasn’t just her; most women of her time did the same. I grew up seeing the women in my family in sarees, doing household chores and working in the kitchen with every pleat intact. It seemed like the most comfortable outfit for them. I wonder how, because today we need a team to help us when we wear a gown. Back home, we have storage beds filled with dozens of sarees, folded, packed and preserved - many of them perhaps never worn. In my family, it’s a ritual to gift each other sarees on special occasions.”
Esha revealed the treasure in her ancestral home, which also featured her grandmother’s vintage jewellery along with the decades-old sarees, including Mango silk, Banarasi, Kanjivaram, Chanderi, and many others, which were preserved with utmost care. Esha then shared that there were also many such sarees that were never worn by her mom and grandmom, as there were rituals of gifting such elegant fashion pieces in her family. Henceforth, when the diva took those sarees back to her home, she refurbished them beautifully. She shared:
“The weave, the material and the way of draping might vary, but they all look amazing on every body type. A saree is a complete outfit in itself. My granny wore them, then my mother wore them. When I inherited them, I had them delicately refurbished so that the zardozi work or the threadwork wouldn’t get spoiled. A saree is an outfit that can be passed down for generations, and it will only gain heritage value. You can hardly do that with your fast-fashion Western outfits.”
