Esha Deol Reveals Feeling 'Depressed' After Being Labelled A Drug Addict, 'Would Have Few Drinks...'

Esha Deol is one of the most talented actresses in Bollywood. She never skips a chance to win the hearts of her fans with her acting skills and gorgeousness. Esha began her career with the movie, Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe back in 2002 and then established her unique identity. However, the early 2010s were hard on the then-newcomer as false reports about her being a drug addict started to surface.  Esha opened up about the toll these rumours took on her in her mother, Hema Malini's biography.

Esha Deol reveals the false reports about her being a drug addict left her depressed and hurt

Esha Deol was left shell-shocked when rumours about her experimenting with drugs started circulating in the early 2010s. The false reports went so far as to suggest that Esha would soon be heading for rehab due to her drug problem. It was in her mother, Hema Malini's biography titled Hema Malini: Beyond The Dream Girl, which was penned by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, that Esha finally opened up about the impact these false accusations had on her. 

Esha revealed that she had felt extremely hurt and depressed as she had always been 'dead against her drugs.' She was so shaken by the rumours that she offered to do a blood test to prove her innocence to her mom, Hema. In Esha's words:

"I would like to say that I am dead against drugs and I have never touched it. When that article (about her being a drug addict) came out, I was so depressed and hurt that I told my mom she could get my blood test done to check." 

Esha Deol admits to partying and drinking but staunchly denies doing drugs

Esha Deol also firmly said that she had never done anything that could damage her parents' reputation. The actress honestly admitted to partying and drinking but stated she was just having fun, just like anyone else at that age did. Esha also staunchly denied ever doing drugs, stating:

"I would have never done anything that would put my parents to shame. Yes, I would party, I would have a few drinks with my friends, I had my share of fun and why not? That was the right age and time. At that age, everyone parties and drinks; the only issue was that I was in the public eye."

Every actor remembers their debut film experience, which gave them a way into showbiz, and so did Esha Deol. However, in her case, the pressure was vastly different. In an interview with Zoom, the actress opened up about being expected to carry forward her parents' legacy in acting and receiving overwhelming criticism as people compared her with her mother, who had worked in over 200 films. She was quoted as saying: 

"The pressure pump started after the films were released and things were written. Then I was like, they are comparing me in my first film to my mother, who has done 200 films."

The comments and reactions to Esha's first film didn't just end with comparisons. Despite being just 18, people also commented about her weight. Esha was critiqued for her baby fat and chubby cheeks, traits she had initially thought looked cute and suited the roles she did.
