Popular TV actress, Erica Fernandes became famous with her hit TV serials like Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi and Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2. She has been a known face in the TV world for a long time. Although she has been successful, she has not been in the spotlight, as she shifted to Dubai, and her die-hard fans are waiting for her to return. Amid all this, the actress recently opened up about being physically abused when she was in a relationship.
Erica recently revealed some of the harsh realities of the entertainment world and shared that her past relationship had taken a toll on her mental health. When Erica looked back at her experiences, she revealed that she had taken a long time to come out of her heartbreaks and said:
"I've been single for so long because I was not able to move on. This whole baggage, trauma, experiences, the trust issues... heartbreak, I definitely had, and how it has shaped me into the person I am today. A lot of things have changed for me. I've gone through hardships, ups and downs in my life, but those experiences have shaped me."
Erica shared about the issues she had in her earlier relationships and how one relationship had left a long-lasting impact on her mind. She revealed that she was in a very toxic and abusive relationship and she did not want to bring it out as she had the burden of being an actress. In her words:
"I've gone through a very violent relationship. We reached a stage where there was physical abuse too. I didn’t want to bring it up at that point because, when you're an actor, everything becomes news. If you go to the cops, it’ll be all over the media, and then there’s a media trial. Plus, I wasn't sure what the outcome would be if I went to the police. I don't trust the judicial system that much."
Erica shared the reason behind why she went quiet for a long time after she faced abuse. She said that women have a habit of not speaking, getting targeted, and questioning why they are silent all the time. Erica revealed that time is taken to talk about things on a personal note. The trauma of her past relationship left a long scar and even carried on after the relationship ended. Erica shared:
"To deal with was a different thing. Main khud hi apne aap se deal kar rahi thi, apne situation se. Main kaise is cheez ko or apne aap ko handle karu. I spoke to a few people who knew about it, the moment it happened. That incident left a scar on me and at times, when I see films, where there is physical abuse, a man abusing a woman, I get flashes of those. It actually took a toll on me. When I watched Do Patti, it took me back to those days.
