Emraan Hashmi rose to fame for his intense and romantic roles on-screen, bringing him much female attention. But the actor is a dedicated family man who remained unfazed by it. Emraan tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Parveen, and they welcomed a son, Ayaan, in 2010. Things were going well for the family of three until Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 4, which left the couple shattered. Emraan took a break from work but later rejoined films, and Parveen held the fort for the trio all this while. In a recent interview, Emraan Hashmi shared how his wife, Praveen Shahani, supported him and their son, who bravely faced the challenge.
Emraan Hashmi is on a promotional spree for his upcoming film, Ground Zero, and recently sat down to converse with Humans Of Bombay. During the conversation, he opened up about his decision to take a break at the peak of his career due to his son's cancer diagnosis. For those unaware, Emraan Hashmi's son, Ayaan, was born in 2010 and was diagnosed with first stage cancer in 2024. Emraan and his wife, Parveen's lives changed within a few hours. Recalling the same, Emraan said:
"That was a chaotic time in all our lives. It hit us out of the blue because there were no particular symptoms, and one day you come to know that your kid, who is three years old, has been diagnosed with cancer. It was an ongoing battle."
The Azhar actor shared that he had to rejoin work after a point despite taking a career break. But, throughout the whole phase, his wife, Parveen, supported him and their son. As a mother, she had to deal with many things and emotions herself, but she displayed unwavering strength, which kept their family grounded. At the same time, it strengthened the couple's bond. In his words:
"My wife was a huge support system, even while dealing with much of her stuff. I had to come back for films, and my wife was there with him alone. The way she handled it – she is very strong – and due credit to her. Our relationship and bond got stronger."
In the same conversation, Emraan shared that apart from immense support from family and his wife, his son, Ayaan's courage kept things afloat. Despite suffering from the disease at the age of 4, he showed resilience. He didn't bend down during the phase and instead bounced back, inspiring him and everyone else. Ayaan was declared cancer-free five years later. Recalling the time, Emraan said:
"More than anything, keeping the family aside was my son's resilience. He used to take his chemotherapy, and within five minutes, he was back playing with his toys. Kids don't let themselves get bogged down with this stuff."
Emraan Hashmi was last seen in Tiger 3 and is presently seen in his newly released film, Ground Zero co-starring Sai Tamhankar and Zoya Hussain. He has an impressive line of work ahead, including Telugu films, They Call Him OG, Awarapan 2 and the sequel of Jannat.
