Bollywood actor, Emraan Hashmi just turned 46 on March 24, 2025. The actor has finally addressed Pakistani veteran actor, Javed Sheikh’s claims that he was ‘rude’ and ‘dismissive’ on the sets of the 2008 film, Jannat, where the two shared screen space. Emraan called the actor’s allegations ‘bizarre’, and suggested that the entire controversy was just a ‘comedy of errors’.
A few days ago, Pakistani actor, Javed Sheikh appeared on Aaj Entertainment’s Ramadan Transmission, where he opened up about his unpleasant experience working with Emraan during the shoot of Jannat in South Africa. Javed recalled their first meeting where Emraan allegedly shook his hand ‘dismissively’ and turned his face away. Javed admitted he felt disrespected for his indifference, and thought that Emraan had attitude. On his birthday, Emraan Hashmi finally addressed the controversy during an interview with Indian Express. Calling the whole situation ‘bizarre’, Emraan said:
“It’s bizarre! I was 20-something then, and he is not my age, so we were never friends. I didn’t hang out with him, but I don’t remember anything like what he is saying happening.”
The Jannat actor further added that he suspects some misunderstanding might have occurred at that time, which has now escalated into unnecessary drama after 16 to 17 years. Expressing his amusement at the matter coming up nearly two decades later, Emraan shared:
“I don’t know what Javed sahab took back with him, but it is definitely something he has held on to for 16-17 years. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a giant comedy of errors that has snowballed into something I know nothing about.”
In a recent Ramadan transmission interview, Javed Sheikh recalled an incident from the 2008 film, Jannat. He shared that when he flew to South Africa for the shoot, Emraan Hashmi was cold towards him during their first meeting at Newlands Cricket Stadium. Javed admitted feeling hurt, especially since Bollywood stars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan treated him respectfully. In response, he sought ‘soft revenge’ by refusing to approach Emraan for rehearsals, insisting the younger actor come to him instead. The actor shared:
"I had not had an opportunity to meet Emraan Hashmi until then… I tried to hand-shake hands with him but noticed a very cold response from his side. He shook hands dismissively and turned his face away, which really irked me. I thought to myself, 'Big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan respect me so much, and this young guy has this attitude. What does he think of himself?' When he came, I did the rehearsal but didn't bother to even look at him. For the days to follow, when we completed the filming, I did not talk to him at all."
Meanwhile, Emraan Hashmi has been busy with his upcoming film, Ground Zero, all set to hit the theatres on April 25, 2025. The film, directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, also stars Sai Tamhankar and Mukesh Tiwari. According to reports, the film is inspired by a real-life BSF operation and Emraan plays the role of a BSF Deputy Commandant leading a high-stakes mission for national security.
