It all began when some fans compared her old pictures from her popular films with recent ones from her Instagram. Since the contrast was clear, some alleged that it was due to plastic surgery or cosmetic enhancement, while others felt it was due to some new diet or fitness regimen. However, here's what exactly led to the changes, and the reason might surprise you.

When Emilia Clarke's changed look went viral, several netizens raised concerns and speculations. One netizen penned, "Wow, the after photos are shocking. But the reality amid the speculations is that the changes are expected due to the passing of time and her evolving lifestyle choices. Over the past decade, the actress has shifted her hair colour from the iconic platinum blonde of her Game of Thrones role to a softer, natural brown shade. 

Netizens have even noted subtle changes in her facial features, but these are largely attributed to aging, recovery from major health scares, and lifestyle adjustments, rather than surgical enhancements. For those unaware, Emilia has been open about her struggles with body image following medical treatments. She had to deal with water retention, post-surgery pain, and the emotional toll of recovery, which made her feel unattractive at times. However, she has since adopted a healthier lifestyle, finding confidence in her natural look.

Emilia Clarke had a life-threatening battle with a brain stroke and brain aneurysms

Most of the reasons behind Emilia Clarke's changed appearance tie back to her health journey. In 2011, when her career was just taking off, the actress collapsed at a gym. Later, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by a ruptured brain aneurysm. After that, she underwent an emergency surgery, which saved her life. However, the actress later revealed that the ordeal left "quite a bit" of her brain damaged and unusable.

Again in 2013, she faced a second aneurysm that had doubled in size. So, she underwent a minimally invasive procedure that failed, leading to a massive brain bleed and a second major surgery. The experience was both physically and mentally overwhelming. Emilia was left anxious about her future and worried about losing her ability to perform. In some interviews, she admitted how she sometimes felt like "a shell" of herself during recovery.

Despite dealing with severe health challenges, Emilia Clarke made what she calls a 'remarkable' recovery. She went on to work in some of her best projects, including Me Before You, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Last Christmas, and, more recently, Marvel's Secret Invasion. At the same time, she has used her platform to openly discuss her health struggles, helping to end stigma around brain injuries. Emilia even co-founded a charity, SameYou, in 2019, which provides rehabilitation support for patients with brain injuries and strokes. Since then, her decision to openly speak about the issue has transformed her personal hardship into a mission of hope and awareness.
