Ed Sheeran's Awkward Encounter With Indian Police As They Stopped His Street Performance Mid-Way

Famous British singer, Ed Sheeran was in Bengaluru to surprise his fans with an impromptu performance. However, he tasted the rowdiness of Indian police when his performance was halted mid-way by an angry policeman. It was an awkward situation for the singer as he wasn't given permission to sing on the streets.

Ed Sheeran was stopped by an angry policeman in Bengaluru

Ed Sheeran was performing live on Church Street, Bengaluru, on February 9, 2025, when a policeman on duty asked him to stop. In the viral video, Ed began his performance with his famous song, Shape Of You, with a lot of enthusiasm, and the crowd started gathering. But within a few minutes, an officer on duty was seen unplugging the microphone while the singer was still performing.

Ed Sheeran did his best to perform, but the angry policeman didn't listen to him. For the unversed, Bengaluru police halted the singer's live performance as the authorities denied the permission. On the other hand, Ed Sheeran's team stated that the act was brief, and they had prior permission to do so. The police clearly stated that they had requested it, but permission was not granted to them.

Netizens reacted to Ed Sheeran's performance being halted by police

As soon as the video surfaced on the internet, netizens started reacting to the same. One user wrote, "lmaooo uncle doesn’t discriminate between goras and local street singers." Another one commented, "He doesn't know who he is and he would have plugged the plug the same way if a random musician had done this. You can't do this in public without approval. EDs team must have thought he didn't need it in india, subconsciously thinking that everything is possible in India and that lawlessness isn't as strong as in their country but having said all this, at the same time, I doubt that the police officer would have done this if he knew who he was or if it was a famous Indian artist."

A third user penned, "Without enough protection or security, it's only matter of time he will get mobbed. And later english media will get another 100 reasons to question our civic sense. Sundays on church street is very busy so not a place for impromptu."
