Edward Christopher Sheeran, popularly known as Ed Sheeran, is a popular British singer who is currently touring in India. The singer is scheduled to perform in Bengaluru and Shillong as part of his Mathematics Tour. However, things took an abrupt turn when the singer decided to do an impromptu performance on the streets of Bengaluru but was stopped by the police.

Ed Sheeran is a well-known global persona and is loved by millions across the world. However, that didn't stop him from running into trouble with the Bengaluru police after they stopped his impromptu street performance midway. While the police claimed that they had interrupted the singer because he didn't have prior permission, Ed reacted to the same, and his statement was the complete opposite.

Hours after the video of police abruptly interrupting Ed Sheeran surfaced on the internet, Ed took to his Instagram handle and addressed the issue. He posted a story revealing that he had permission to play on the street. He added that his performance on Church Street was planned out, and it wasn't a spontaneous decision. He was quoted saying:

"We had permission to busk, btw, hence us playing in that exact spot-it was planned out before. It wasn't just us randomly turning up. All good though. See ya at the show tonight x."

Ed Sheeran was stopped by a policeman mid-performance on Church Street

For the unversed, on the afternoon of February 9, 2025, Ed Sheeran arrived opposite the MG Road Metro station on Church Street. The singer's team had set up two microphones and a guitar for the singer to perform. Once the singer reached the spot, he took the mic and started performing an unplugged version of his hit track, Shape of You. However, things took a drastic turn when a police officer suddenly approached the singer and unplugged the mic.

Ed Sheeran, despite the interruption, tried his best to continue the performance, but the policeman didn't budge and the singer had to leave. For the unversed, Bengaluru police halted the singer's live performance as the authorities denied the permission. On the other hand, Ed Sheeran's team stated that the act was brief, and they had prior permission to do so. The police clearly stated that they had requested it, but permission was not granted to them.

Ed Sheeran will be performing a concert in Bengaluru on February 9, 2025, at NICE Grounds. This concert also marks the singer's first performance in the city. After the show in Bengaluru, Ed will be performing in Shillong on February 12, 2025, at JN Stadium on February 12. The singer's final stop will be on February 15 at Leisure Valley Grounds, Gurugram.
