Perfect singer, Ed Sheeran, is a big fan of Bollywood, and he made a new revelation which will surely stun his fans. They did not see it coming as Ed revealed that there was a time when he was called to collaborate with Arijit Singh on his chartbuster track, Tum Hi Ho. The song had become the love anthem of the time, which featured ex-couple, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor from Aashiqui 2. However, the project that Ed had to lead did not materialise, but it did mark the beginning of a friendship between two of the greatest voices in the world.
Ed sat down for an interview with BBC Asian Network and shared that he was given an offer to work with Arijit on a version of the Aashiqui 2 song, Tum Hi Ho (2013). He shared his feelings, spellbound by the romantic song, and said he had no idea if the film for which the song was created was even in production. Ed shared:
“There was one time I met with T-Series. And they wanted me to do a version of Tum Hi Ho with Arijit for a movie. I don’t know whether it’s being made or whether I am dropping people in it. But this was a while ago. So, they sent me Tum Hi Ho."
Ed shared that he loved the song and reached out to Arijit, proposing that they would be in touch. The spark that started off in the first attempt soon turned into a friendship, and then, during the London tour, they met, and their connection deepened. Sheeran shared how Arijit came in for Sapphire and revealed:
"We hung out. I went to play Perfect with him at the show. And afterwards I was playing him some of the new record. I played him Sapphire. And he was instantly looking at his mates, being like, ‘This needs this. I’d love to do this. Let me help.’”
Arijit then added his signature touch to the song, Sapphire and Ed called their meeting an organic and effortless collaboration. It was entirely born out of mutual love, and a significant amount of commercial strategy was also involved. Ed Sheeran revealed watching Aashiqui 2 and also listening to Arijit's Tum Hi Ho song. He shared his love for the music but also admitted that the ending of the movie did make him sad. Ed Sheeran then confessed:
"But Tum Hi Ho is one of my favourite songs of all time."
It was in 2025, while Ed was in India, that his Mathematics tour took place. The singer, accompanied by his dad, visited Arijit's hometown, located in Jiaganj, Azimganj, West Bengal, where they completed recording Sapphire. It was in July 2025 when Ed completed the recording of Sapphire and called it one of his favourite experiences. In his sweet note, he penned:

Then once we were in the studio, he taught me how to sing in Punjabi, and a bit of Sitar."
