'DWTS', Why Is Pro Jan Ravnik Being Slammed For His Choreography? It Has A Taylor Swift Connection

Jan Ravnik has been a popular face among Taylor Swift fans as he was often seen dancing with the pop star during her Eras Tour. There was also a lot of anticipation to see which celebrity would get the opportunity to dance with the celebrity choreographer. Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jen Affleck has been partnered with him to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy. However, recent comments from pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd have landed Jan Ravnik in controversy. 

Former Dancing with the Stars pros question why Jan Ravnik has been cast as a coach on the show 

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd served as pros in the previous seasons of Dancing with the Stars. They are now married, and Peta also has a podcast named The Penthouse With Peta. In a recent episode of the podcast, the husband and wife started discussing the current fan-favourite show, Dancing with the Stars season 34. The former pros also talked about Jen Affleck's partner in the show, Jan Ravnik, and did not hold back on their criticism. 

Maksim was especially upfront about his opinion that Jan, who has participated in the show for the first time, should not have been cast as a pro for DWTS. He stated that Jan does not have 'zero foundation, technique, quality, understanding of the partnership.' Maksim was quoted as saying in the podcast:

“Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing With the Stars. There’s zero foundation, technique, quality, understanding of the partnership. It is absurd. It’s unreal how blind we have to be, and God forbid say what’s obviously there. He had no idea what the foxtrot is supposed to look like. How are you going to expect him to teach it and deliver that message in a format that is completely different?”

Peta Murgatroyd stated that Jan Ravnik was hired for DWTS because of his connection to Taylor Swift

Peta expressed concern that Jen Affleck wasn't being properly trained by her coach, Jan Ravnik. She said that Jan, who is not a ballroom dancer, was hired to teach ballroom dancing solely because he is Taylor Swift's popular Eras Tour dancer. Peta stated:

“I feel bad, because she (Jen Affleck) is not getting taught the basics that she needs to. He’s a Taylor Swift dancer, it’s the obvious reason why he was hired — apart from that, he’s a lovely guy, he looks great, he’s a great dancer. Hiring a non-ballroom dancer to teach ballroom dancing to a celebrity as a job is outrageous.”

Jan Ravnik and Jen Affleck respond to Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd's comments

Jan Ravnik posted a photo of himself and Jen Affleck on his Instagram Story during rehearsals. However, what caught people's attention was the Taylor Swift lyrics that he had written in the photo. Jan had penned, "I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams," a line from Taylor's revenge song 'Look What You Made Me Do'. Many people this is Jan's way of respoding to the comments.

Meanwhile, Jen posted a TikTok video where her pro partner lip-synced the lines, “Take it down. Take it down. Take it down. We need it gone. Take it down. That doesn’t represent me or what we need to be doing.” Jen shared this video with a caption that said:

“Me when anyone talks trash about Jan...We don’t tolerate Jan slander in this house !!”
