Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju's romantic comedy, Dude, has been released in the theatres on October 17, 2025. Ever since its release, there has been a lot of buzz with fans hailing it as a mass entertainer and a perfect watch for Diwali. While some praised the film, some stated that it lacks the charm.
Helmed by Keerthiswaran, the movie is about two best friends, Kural (played by Mamitha) and Agan (played by Pradeep). The story features a comparison between the love in the past and the present generation. It portrays how love was expressed in the past and how today’s youth perceive and experience it.
Veteran actor, R. Sarath Kumar portrays 'Aravind's dad, representing the older generation’s concept of love and marriage. The film discusses how Gen Z perceives relationships, blending humour and romance. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) officials watched the romantic drama, Dude and gave it a UA (16+) certificate, making it apt for viewers under 16.
The CBFC suggested some minor changes, including muting certain words, and a few vulgar dialogues were removed from both the Tamil and Telugu versions. The film’s music was also highly applauded and has been trending among the masses.
Ever since the film was released, X users have been heaping praises on the main leads, Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju and their on-screen chemistry. One of the users compared Dude with Thalapathy Vijay’s 2001 romantic drama Shajahan. But many users felt that the story faltered in the second half.

One reviewer wrote, “Thalapathy’s Shajahan movie’s Gen Z version (or 2k copy). 1st half is good, but 2nd half falls flat. The main enemies of the movie are music & editing, overall below average outing. 2/5.” Another users penned, “A mid rom-com with a fairly engaging first half but a lacklustre second half! Director Keerthiswaran sets up the film with potential but falters in the screenplay.”
Despite the criticism, many people loved the humour and chemistry, hailing the performances. Heaping praises on Pradeep Ranganathan, a user penned, “PR’s style and combo with Mamitha is nice. Sarathkumar shines. Humour drives the narration to an extent, one-time watch.”
At a pre-release event in Hyderabad, producer Y. Ravi Shankar called Dude a 'super duper hit'. Ravi shared that after watching the film in Chennai recently, he found it 'extraordinary'. Speaking about the same, he said:
“I went to Chennai recently and saw Dude. It was extraordinary. This film will become a super-duper hit and I am very confident about that. The performances of Pradeep, Mamitha and Sarath Kumar are so impressive that they are always one step ahead of each other."
