'Do You Wanna Partner' Review: Tamannaah And Diana Deliver Yet Another 'Mid-Show' With Great Cast

Do You Wanna Partner follows the themes of 'women in male-dominated fields', which has been among the most talked-about subjects on the internet today. And while, in general, a show with depth, navigating the struggles of women would have been a hit, Amazon Prime Video's latest series lacks the fizz. The series follows the characters of Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty, two best friends trying to launch their own beer startup, as they navigate a male-dominated world. However, it ends up being the same mid-show story we have seen on the screen several times, making it kind of 'yawn-worthy'.

Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty's beer business lacks the kick

Tamannaah Bhatia plays the role of 'Shikha', who is fired from her white-collar job in Gurgaon and seeks to utilise the time to revive her father's dream of creating craft beer. She is soon joined by her best friend and marketing genius, 'Anahita' (Diana Penty), who also decided to quit her own job, and the two set out to make beer. However, they soon realise no one wants to take two women making the booze seriously.

In an attempt to make their business thrive, the duo decides to hire an actor, Jaaved Jaaferi, to portray their fictional boss, the enigmatic billionaire 'David James'. However, they are once again met with hurdles that are beyond their control and end up facing threats from a loan shark (Shweta Tiwari) and the liquor baron who betrayed 'Shikha's' father years ago (Neeraj Kabi).

What works in Do You Wanna Partner and what misses the spot?

The only thing that actually works in the series, Do You Wanna Partner is the tone. The light and breezy narrative keeps the vibe fresh, even when the story itself seems to be struggling and the characters fall into tropes that have been overused, feeling somewhat dragged. That is because the creators chose to keep it frothy, but unfortunately, in the end, it 'ended' the show.

With a theme that could have made headlines, inspiring the upcoming generation to take a leap into their bizarre dream project with their best friends, and a cast that is impeccable, Do You Wanna Partner lacks the ability to carry that weight. These are real-world problems that women face all around the world, in every walk of life, are just reduced to a face, not having their opinion taken seriously, and being delegated to a man is something every working woman has faced. However, instead of exploring the depth with grace, the series only touched on the topic superficially.

The show ends up feeling like a woman written by men: ambitious but vulnerable, with big dreams but unable to really do anything without support from a man. This ends up drowning our leads, and unfortunately, the character build-up is such that the side roles don't add any element to the show either. Nonetheless, the only comparatively human aspect is the interaction between 'Shikha' and 'Anahita', as their chemistry actually resembles a genuine friendship.

The verdict is, unfortunately, average

To sum it up, Do You Wanna Partner is not a bad show for an Indian OTT platform, but it's not something that leaves you feeling something. It's just there, it's average, and it's like any other 'aspiring' story. So, if you are not all about the 'been-there-seen-that' attitude, give the show a watch on Amazon Prime Video.
