Diljit Dosanjh has been making a name for himself in the Bollywood industry for quite some time now. As a singer, he is known for captivating audiences with his mesmerising voice. He has several renowned songs in his discography, including Lehnga, Haye Juliet, Choli Ke Peeche, and more. Being the versatile artist that he is, Diljit has also worked in front of the camera as an actor. Some of his best-known films include Detective Sherdil, Jodi, and Sajjan Singh Rangroot, among others. However, it is for his 2024 film, Amar Singh Chamkila, that he earned a nomination in the 53rd International Emmy Awards Gala. While many fans were rooting for him, he unfortunately failed to win the Best Performance by an Actor Award for which he was nominated.
This year's 53rd International Emmy Awards took place on Monday night in New York City (Tuesday morning, according to Indian Time). The award show saw 64 nominations across 16 different categories. Among these categories, Indian fans were looking forward to the Best Performance by an Actor category, which featured Diljit Dosanjh as a nominee for his phenomenal performance in Amar Singh Chamkila. His fellow nominees in the same category included David Mitchell for his role in the film, Ludwig, Oriol Pla for his character in I, Addict, and Diego Vasquez for his role in One Hundred Years of Solitude. Unfortunately, Diljit failed to bag this award, losing out to Spanish actor, Oriol Pla, owing to his moving a dr**g addict in recovery in I, Addict.

Diljit Dosanjh missing out on the Best Actor honour is not the only thing that left Indian fans disappointed. His movie, Amar Singh Chamkila, was also snubbed from this year's Emmy Awards, despite receiving widespread acclaim from movie fans both nationally and globally. For those unversed, this film is an official biopic of the late Punjabi singer of the same name, who was gunned down back in the 80s. While Diljit acted as the male lead in the film, Bollywood actress, Parineeti Chopra played the late singer's wife and collaborator, Amarjot Kaur. The film also featured a soundtrack by AR Rahman, which earned it widespread praise.

Amar Singh Chamkila was competing against the German film, Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb, the UK's Lost Boys and Fairies, and Chile Vencer o Morir (Victory or Death) in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category. The Indian film eventually lost to the British TV drama, Lost Boys and Fairies. Their loss left India with no wins on the night. However, despite their loss in the award show, Diljit and filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali had a memorable time walking the red carpet together earlier on Monday evening. Diljit could also be seen greeting photographers with his signature namaste. The Netflix India team also accompanied the duo on the red carpet. This included their Vice President of Content, Monika Shergill, and Director of Original Films, Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh.

What are your thoughts on Diljit Dosanjh and his film, Amar Singh Chamkila, failing to win in this year's Emmy Awards?
