Dilip Kumar Broke Up With Madhubala As She Couldn't Bear Children, Reveals Mumtaz, 'She Would Die..'

Mumtaz was a close friend of the late actress, Madhubala. The latter was one of the most iconic actresses in the film industry, with her expressions and beauty capturing the hearts of the audience. However, while her professional life was at a boom, her personal life came crashing down after a diagnosis. In a recent interview, Mumtaz opened up about the same topic and revealed what happened between her friend and Dilip Kumar. 

Dilip Kumar broke up with Madhubala after doctor told her she can't have kids

Mumtaz recalled her conversation with her late friend, Madhubala, during an interview with Vickey Lalwani. The veteran actress revealed that the renowned actress had once confided in her about her relationship with Dilip Kumar and what led to its unfortunate end. Madhubala and Dilip were together for a decade before they parted ways.

While Madhubala's sister, Madhur Bhusan, had stated in a previous interview that her sister and Dilip would have gotten married if it were not for a court case she filed against director, BR Chopra, which caused a rift between the couple, Mumtaz had a different story to share. She stated that they broke up because Madhubala was unable to have children. She was quoted as stating:

"She didn't break up with him. He broke up with her because she couldn't have children. Instead, he married Saira Banu, who is a very nice person. She took such great care of him till his dying breath. She was his fan originally. They had a huge age difference, but these things don’t matter when you’re in love."

In the same conversation, Mumtaz revealed that there are no doubts that Madhubala was in love with Dilip Kumar. However, the actor wanted a child, which Madhubala was unable to provide. The veteran actress shared that it was Madhubalal, herself, who told her why Dilip had broken up with her. She added that the doctor had told the ace actress that if she tried having a child, she would die because of her heart problem. Mumtaz was quoted as saying:

"Nobody can ever doubt that she was madly in love with him. She was madly in love with him. But Dilip saab ko aulaad chahiye thi. Perhaps it was in this desperation to have a child that he married Saira. Madhubala told me herself. I would go to meet her, and she was not well at all. She would say, 'If I ever loved anyone in my life, it was Yusuf. But when he found out that I can’t conceive…' She would call him Yusuf. The doctor told her that she would die in childbirth, because of her heart problem."

In the same conversation, Mumtaz revealed that she doesn't blame Dilip Kumar for what happened with Madhubala as she understands that every man wants a child. She added that maybe Dilip had thought that trying with someone else was a better option for him. However, she found it unfortunate that he and Saira Banu didn't have any children. She added that she feels sorry for her as she is a wonderful person. 

"Despite being in love with her, he might have thought, 'Let me try with another woman.' It’s so tragic that he didn't have a child with Saira as well. I feel sorry for Saira. She's a wonderful person. If they had a child, she would've been taken care of too."
