Vaani Kapoor and Fawad Khan's upcoming film, Abir Gulaal, has been under the spotlight since its announcement. The film, which was supposed to mark the comeback of Pakistani actor, Fawad Khan in Bollywood after 9 years, had received mixed responses from the audiences over its release in India. But, the recent Pahalgam attack, just before the release of the film, has added fuel to the calls for protest against the film's release. Consequently, Abir Gulaal, which was scheduled to release on May 9, 2025, now stands in between the protests, and its makers are silent over it. Amid all this, recent activity on the film's lead actress, Vaani Kapoor's social media has created a new buzz. Find out more.
Abir Gulaal was one of the most-awaited films of 2025. Apart from marking the return of Fawad Khan in Bollywood, its songs, teaser, aesthetics and a fresh pairing of Vaani and the actor had created excitement around its release. Moreover, after completing the shoot, the film's cast, including Vaani and Fawad, also joined several promotional events for the film, which attracted attention. However, after the calls for a ban on Pakistani artists became strong, the film's team didn't react or issue any official statement on it. But, recently eagle-eyed netizens noticed that all the promotional content related to the film and Fawad Khan has been deleted from Vaani Kapoor's Instagram handle.
Speculations began on social media that Vaani Kapoor deleted the posters and teasers on purpose. However, later a news report from Times Now revealed that the actress did not delete the posts herself. Rather, the content was shared through Instagram collaborations. Consequently, the content was originally deleted by the film's production team, not Vaani. As a result, all the posts can't be seen on the actress's profile.
After the tragic incident of the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan's citizens were asked to leave India, and the government implemented stern measures against the neighbouring country. Amid this situation, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for a boycott of Pakistani actors in India as they did in 2019 after the Pulwama attack. It is important to note that the decision was prompted by the release of Fawad's Abir Gulaal. At the same time, PTI shared that the Information and Broadcasting Ministry is considering denying permission to the film's release altogether.
After the Pahalgam attack, Fawad Khan shared a message to condemn the attack and expressed his sadness over the incident. He called the incident 'heinous' in his note. However, later, the Indian government enforced a ban on the social media handles of several Pakistani artists, including Fawad Khan, Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Atif Aslam and others. If anyone from India tries to access their profiles, it returns with a blank page and a message that reads:
