Former NCB officer, Sameer Wankhede, is currently in a legal feud with Shah Rukh Khan and his son, Aryan Khan. Sameer Wankhede filed a defamation lawsuit against SRK-owned Red Chillies Entertainment in September 2025, as Aryan Khan's directorial, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, allegedly maligned his reputation. Sameer claimed that the Netflix series maliciously portrayed him and anti-drug enforcement agencies. Amid the buzz around the issue, his wife, Marathi actress, Kranti Redkar, shared a cryptic post, which might be an indirect jab at Aryan's series.
Sameer Wankhede filed a Rs. 2 crore defamation suit in the Delhi High Court against Red Chillies Entertainment (owned by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan), Netflix, and others. He requested the amount to be donated to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for the treatment of its cancer patients. The basis of his lawsuit was that a character in the series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, was widely interpreted as being based on him.
According to Sameer, he was depicted in a 'false, malicious and defamatory' manner in the show, which needed to be legally contested. Although the particular scene used a different name for the character, the circumstances and the actor's uncanny resemblance to Sameer Wankhede stemmed the speculations. Advocate Aditya Giri, one of the lawyers representing Sandeep Wankhede conveyed his clients' grievances, and said:
"This series disseminates a misleading and negative portrayal of anti-drug enforcement agencies, thereby eroding public confidence in law enforcement institutions."
Sameer Wankhede's wife, Kranti Redkar, might have taken an indirect dig at the alleged parody scene of her husband in Aryan Khan's The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Two days after Sameer moved to court for the defamation suit, Kranti took to Instagram to make an appreciation post for Sameer. It was a video of the ex-NCB officer delivering a speech on the necessity of being dr*g-free. In the caption, Kranti mentioned that 'dr*h problem' was an issue bigger than being a subject of parody. The caption can be read as:
"Drug problem is deep, it's not something to be made fun of or laughed at. Hope people realise the seriousness of this problem before it's too late. Keep up the good work swankhede.irs, your contribution to the society is profound. And we are all very proud of you. You could spend weekends having fun, going for vacations, but you choose to conduct Antidrugs awareness lectures and programs. Talking to the youth, shaping their young minds. We all stand by you and your movement. #nashamuktbharatcampaign."
The scene included a police raid at the success party of the debut film of The Ba***ds Of Bollywood's protagonist, 'Aasmaan Singh', played by Lakshya Lalwani. The officer first finds a man indulging in illegal substances outside the party venue and wants to arrest him on narcotics charges. But he tells him that he was not a part of Bollywood and pointed at a top star of the industry who was also guilty of the same offence. The actor was caught in the act and jailed; however, the other guy was left unharmed because of his non-connection with Bollywood.

Just like in the series, a real-life Bollywood vs NCB case took place back in 2021. In October of the year, Sameer led an NCB team that raided a Cordelia cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai, where they claimed to have busted a dr*g party. Among those arrested was Aryan Khan, the son of actor Shah Rukh Khan, who was charged with possession, consumption, and sale/purchase of banned dr*gs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Despite no drugs being found on his person, Aryan Khan spent 22 days in jail before being granted bail by the Bombay High Court.
