For almost two weeks, fans have been waiting for the official confirmation about Diane Ladd's cause of death, and now, it has finally been revealed. On November 17, 2025 (ET), PEOPLE obtained a death certificate that confirmed the actress's cause of death. The report revealed that Diane passed away due to acute-on-chronic hypoxic respiratory failure. According to the Cleveland Clinic, hypoxic respiratory failure occurs when there isn't enough oxygen in the blood, which is often caused by a lung condition.
The cause aligns with her known diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a severe lung disease, that Diane Ladd had been battling since 2018. The certificate noted that she had interstitial lung disease, which had been going on for years beforehand. Oesophageal dysmotility was listed as another significant contributing condition. Hopefully, now that the final mystery around the actress has been put to rest, fans can put her memories to rest.
