The Grammy-winning star had a long-term wish which she carried in her heart since her twenties. She opened up about the same in several of her interviews. She kept working towards it and finally fulfilled it about ten months before her death. The wish was to step into the world of music. Besides her decorated career in acting, Diane Keaton also made her dream of singing a reality.

In November 2024, the Annie Hall actress took to Instagram to share her reaction to the release of her debut holiday single, First Christmas, which was co-written by songwriter, Carole Bayer Sager. She couldn't believe that she had finally achieved her lifelong desire and wanted to soak in the moment. She also dropped the cover art of her song in the post, which featured her posing in a black turtleneck and coordinating pants adorned with polka dots. The post could be read as:

"I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S FINALLY HERE! MY DEBUT HOLIDAY SINGLE, 'FIRST CHRISTMAS,' IS COMING OUT FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH. SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS SONG WITH YOU ALL."

When Diane Keaton opened up about the obstacles to her successful singing career

Previously, in a 2014 interview, Diane Keaton confessed that before her successful acting career, she had a long-held 'fantasy' to become a nightclub singer. In her early twenties, she took singing lessons and performed a few gigs but admitted she 'was not very good' at it. She felt her 'very small voice' was a significant limitation to a successful singing career. Despite her early disappointment, Diane Keaton did have later opportunities to sing. She sang on soundtracks for her films, Annie Hall, And So It Goes, and Book Club: The Next Chapter. But her dream of releasing her own original music was finally fulfilled with the release of First Christmas.

Diane Keaton kept working until a year before her death

Diane Keaton was active in the film industry until her final year. Her final film, the comedy Summer Camp, was released earlier in 2024, a year before her passing. Even beyond acting, Keaton's artistic endeavours were active near the end of her life. In Summer Camp, Keaton starred alongside fellow veteran actors, Kathy Bates and Eugene Levy. The film focused on three old friends who reunite at a summer camp. In the same year, she also released the song, First Christmas.
