Society commonly perceives beauty and brains as a rare combination, but Bollywood divas have often proved it wrong. Dia Mirza is one of them, and has won appreciation for her beauty, acting skills, simplicity, and commitment to sustainabiliy. From Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein to Thappad, she always lights up the screen with her presence. In her personal life, Dia was initially married to Sahil Sangha, but they later parted ways, and she married Vaibhav Rekhi. The actress has mostly been silent about her previous marriage, but once, she left fans shocked after sharing that she had auctioned her bridal outfit from her first wedding.
Dia Mirza has been a vocal advocate for environmental causes. Especially, her sustainable and eco-friendly wedding to businessman, Vaibhav Rekhi was a prime example. The duo tied the knot in a simple wedding event where a woman priest solemnised their wedding. However, the highlight of the occasion was Dia's wedding saree. Fans were surprised when the bride wore a red banarasi saree instead of a lehenga like other Bollywood brides. Sharing the reason behind the same, Dia stunned everyone when she revealed that she had even auctioned her outfit from her first wedding with Sahil Sangha.
In an interview with Brut, the Naadaniyaan actress shared a simple thought behind the decision to go eco-friendly. Dia emphasised how, most of the time, heavy bridal lehengas of brides were left unused, but she didn't want the same for herself. Consequently, she auctioned her wedding lehenga from her first wedding and chose a simple saree for her second wedding to ensure that she could use it again. In her words:
"So, the last time around, I auctioned my clothes, and this time around, I made sure to get a garment that I could reuse and wear again and again. Even my husband chose an outfit which he could continue wearing through life instead of just hanging up in the cupboard and never touching it again."
On her wedding day, Dia Mirza ditched the traditional red to wear a green zardosi gharara by Ritu Kumar. The bridal outfit featured intricate gold embroidery with a beige kameez and heavy detailing. She paired it with a matching green dupatta with a blue and gold border. The diva accessorised her outfit with layered emerald and gold necklaces, a statement maang tikka, and matching earrings for an elegant look. Following her regular style, Dia kept her makeup subtle, with defined eyes, soft pink lips, and a dewy base, and tied her hair in a sleek bun.
Dia Mirza and Vaibhav Rekhi's wedding in 2021 was a quintessential example of how weddings can be held while preserving the environment. Apart from their sustainable fashion, the couple organised a no-waste wedding. In an interview with Brut, the couple revealed that they organised the wedding in the garden of their home and made handmade personalised gifts. At the same time, they kept hyperlocal decor and noted the exact number of vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals for their guests to prevent food wastage.
