Dhruv Rathee Slams The Violence In Dhurandhar, Compares It To ISIS Beheadings 'His Lust For Money..'

Ranveer Singh's movie, Dhurandhar has received the adjective of 'Blockbuster' only with the release of the trailer on November 18, 2025. The movie not only features Ranveer Singh, but also Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles. The actioner grabbed a whole lot of attention with the violence in the movie. From beginning to the end, the movie will be filled with chilling actions, and while the audience loved it, some remained unimpressed with the brutality shown here. Amid this, Dhruv Rathee called out Aditya Dhar for the violence he showed in his movie, Dhurandhar, which, as per speculations, might have been made on a true story.

Recently, Dhurv Rathee took to his X (Twitter) and shared his views on the trailer of Dhurandhar. He revealed that the brutality and the gore that were featured in the trailer of the movie are kind of similar to what had been featured in the ISIS beheadings.

Dhurv questioned people who are calling it 'entertainment', where the glimpses are just gore to even look at. Dhurv called out Aditya Dhar and said that he is lustful for money and slammed the director for attempting to make the young mind poisonous with such a brutal movie. He also asked the Censor Board to review the extreme violence in the movie. He penned:

"Aditya Dhar has truly crossed a limit of cheapness in Bollywood. The extreme violence, gore and torture shown in his latest film trailer is the equivalent of watching ISIS beheadings and calling it “entertainment. His lust for money is so unhinged that he is willingly poisoning the minds of the young generation, desensitizing them to gore and glorifying unimaginable torture. This is the chance for Censor Board to show if have a bigger problem with people kissing or watching someone get skinned alive."

Is Dhurandhar based on a true story?

Since R. Madhavan is playing the role of Ajit Doval, questions were rife about whether the movie was based on a real-life story. To mention, while not confirmed, speculations are rife that the movie can actually be based on the story of Major Mohit Sharma, whose role might have been played by the actor, Ranveer Singh. For the unversed, Mohit Sharma was an elite officer in the Indian Army's 1 PARA, who was known for his bravery, fearlessness and leadership.

In 2009, Major Mohit Sharma was given the Ashok Chakra for his unmatched bravery. It was in 2004, when he was sent for an important and secret operation which took place in Shopian, 50 km south of Kashmir. Major Mohit Sharma changed his looks and went under the name of  'Iftikhar Bhatt' as he met with the terrorists. He fabricated a story about the Indian Army killing his brother, and wishes to take revenge. The terrorists believed in him, and he stayed with them, learnt about their networking and connections.

Following this, when the terrorists got an idea about Major Mohit Sharma, they tried to kill him. Well, in his self-defence, he infiltrated the Islamist terror outfit, Hizbul Mujahideen, by taking out two of them, Abu Torara and Abu Sabzar. It was in 2009 when, during another operation in North Kashmir. Mohit Sharma was killed. While it's not confirmed whether Ranveer Singh will play Mohit Sharma's role, people have been joining the dots. Well, only watching the movie could reveal if the speculations are true or not. Dhurandhar is releasing in the theatres on December 5, 2025.
