Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, mononymously known as Dharmendra, is an Indian actor, producer, and politician who predominantly works in Hindi films. The actor is counted among the most handsome Indian actors of all time and is lovingly called the 'He-Man' of B-Town. In his stellar career, which spanned over six decades, Dharmendra has worked in more than 200 films.
Dharmendra is one of the most renowned actors in Bollywood. He is well known for his phenomenal acting skills, charisma and good looks. However, that is not all; there was a time when the actor was also well-known for his drinking habits, so much so that he was named the 'biggest boozer in Bollywood' by many. One of the biggest reasons for the same is the fact he could never stop once he started drinking. To which he poetically responded:
"Abhi mai kabhi kabhi aaina dekhta hu toh aaina mujhe kehta hai, 'Ishq ne maara, sharaab ne maara, milta na varna koi saani tumhara.' Mai bhi javaad deta hu, sharaab na hoti, toh ishq na hota, ye jeena bhi kuch jeena hota."
Dharmendra appeared on an episode of Aap Ki Adalat in 2019, where he opened up about his tryst with liquor. The actor shared an anecdote from the set of films he was shooting with actress Moushumi Chatterjee, who caught him secretly drinking beer on the sets of one of their films. Recalling the incident he shared:
"One afternoon, I felt like having some beer. I had told them (the production team) to make the beer frothy so that it looked like lassi. When Moushumi saw me drinking, she asked, 'Aye, Dharmendra, yeh kya peeta hai?' I lied, saying that it was Lassi. She knew I was lying, so she asked me, 'Achcha, thodi mujhe bhi dena.' I burst out laughing and admitted that I was having beer. Beer peene se kuch nahin hota."
In the same conversation, Dharmendra revealed that he would quit drinking for months on end. He recalled he once stopped drinking for six months and played badminton instead. However, once he had sweat it out of his system, he would go back to drinking. During the conversation, Dharmendra also called himself an extremist.
Dharmendra continued the conversation and revealed that there was a man named Jim on the Sholay set. He revealed that Jim, who worked as a cameraman, had the habit of carrying beer bottles with him. However, during breaks, the actor would sit behind him and drink from his stock. He recalled:

"Our cameraman, Jim, who was working with us on Sholay, had the habit of carrying 5-6 bottles of beer. I would sit behind him and secretly drink from his stock. When the people from the production told him that he had consumed 12 bottles, he reacted baffled, 'How did it happen? I don’t know!' One day, he caught me. You should enjoy life."
