Dhanush Revealed Why He Fell For Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Amid Dating Rumours With Mrunal Thakur

South Indian heartthrob, Dhanush is known for his stellar acting and his smooth dance moves. His on-screen popularity sparked interest in his off-screen, real-life, particularly his romantic relationships. Lately, he has been making headlines for his dating rumours with Son of Sardaar 2 star, Mrunal Thakur. Amid that, interesting details about his 18-year-long married life with ex-wife, Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, have resurfaced.

Dhanush fell for Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's simplicity and humility

Dhanush might be one of the biggest names in the South Indian cinema currently; however, his idea of a perfect partner is no different from an ordinary man. He is attracted to someone who is not fazed by his fame and is neither obsessed with it. It was evident from his revelation regarding the qualities of his former wife, Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, that made him fall for her deeply. In a throwback interview with The Times of India, the Kuberaa star expressed his admiration for her and opened up on why he fell for her and eventually decided to tie the knot with her. He emphasized that it was her simplicity and individuality, rather than her famous family background, that attracted him.

While talking about what got him interested in Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, Dhanush revealed that it was her down-to-earth personality. Belonging to a family that is constantly in the spotlight for being related to the iconic Rajinikanth, aka 'Thalaiva', it wouldn't be shocking if she showcased an entitled behaviour. However, her personality is far from that, as shared by Dhanush. He mentioned that she was way different and a lot more humble than her superstar dad. Talking about the same, Dhanush said:

"She's 100 times simpler than her father."

In the same interview, the actor mentioned his appreciation for Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's ability to treat everyone equally, without any discrimination based on status, familial background, etc. As per Dhanush, his former wife, Aishwaryaa, connected with people easily due to her sweet and easy-going personality. Hence, it was evident that he didn't care about her family status or any other external factors and loved her for her personality.

In the same interview, Dhanush also acknowledged his ex-wife's commitment to raising their two kids, Yathra and Linga. They were a loving family of four until the duo experienced a conflict of interest and decided to part ways. Dhanush and Aishwaryaa separated in 2022 and were granted a divorce in 2024. Their marriage was initially arranged in 2004, and they developed a strong relationship and love for each other over time. However, as all good things come to an end, so did their marriage.

After the end of almost two decades of love life with Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, Dhanush might have found love once again in actress, Mrunal Thakur. Their dating rumours started circulating in July 2025 when the two of them appeared together at the wrap-up party of Dhanush's upcoming film, Tere Ishq Mein. The speculations were fueled about a month later when a video from Mrunal's birthday party went viral, where Dhanush was seen holding her hand. The video reportedly suggested that the duo was romantically involved.

Their additional sightings and alleged dating evidence include Dhanush attending the premiere of Mrunal's film, Son of Sardaar 2, where they were observed having a warm interaction. As per an Economics Times report, Mrunal follows Dhanush's sisters on Instagram.

Although Dhanush's wedding with Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth didn't stand the test of time, we hope he gives love another chance.
